We weren’t better than this same team with Vuc, Evan, and AG so I’m not sure what you’re expecting in year 1.5 of a rebuild

I never said I expected us to be the same team. I’m saying that even in the beginning of the year when we had more players, we still weren’t winning. We were in many of the games, but we weren’t winning.

EDIT: That “almost winnings” was due to our games from the beginning of the season and not during the Vuc era.

You can't expect anything when you're starting the season while missing almost half the roster (Hariss, Ross were out to start the year along with JI, Fultz, MCW, and Chuma) and starting 2 rookies, a center that has been glued to the bench for his career, and a 2nd year guard that only played 47 games last year. It is what it is right now. Enjoy the ride while the team gets healthy and young guys prove that they belong in the future plans of this team.

Basketball is a hard sport with no PG.

They are literally playing two point guards they signed off the street within the last two weeks. One of them wasn't even playing in the G-League and he got 39 minutes tonight.

I'm not sure what people expect to see with this many guys out injured. They're playing hard. It's all you ask for with this many non-NBA caliber guys out there.

Thoughts on how coach handled things tonight? even though he's been in this league a long time, i still feel he has a bit more to learn....there are issues with the x's and o's....issues with player management and issues with situational coaching awareness as well to me....especially down the stretch

Bamba is marginal starter on second worst team in nba. Time passed. Flush the toilet.
Prediction day after Vuc, Gordon, Evan departure - most fans who are celebrating birth of new rebuild will be crying how rebuild is painful before 2022-23 season ends.

Well: Orlando is in power-tank mode now. How this game was lost? It boggles the mind.

Harris was also shopping his wares for this game. (Without those two, Orlando losses this game by 20).

Admittedly, I didn't watch the game, so before I lose my s**t...why is RJ getting 11 minutes in an overtime game in a "developmental year" while a bunch of G-league guys are running the league?

All of the above. Leaving TO’s on the table in regulation. Situational awareness issues like not using those timeouts to advance the ball or avoid that jump ball, things like that. But it’s a learning curve for him as well I supposed. Unless they don’t want RJ playing PG there’s really no reason for him to get 12 mins in this game.

I would have liked Coach to challenge one of those foul calls late in the 4th Q.
I also was very frustrated with Franz's defense for most of the 4th, effort wasn't there. (until Cs final possession in reg).

I grew up watching guys like that win DPOY while they hobbled up and down the court.

I think the whole Bamba criticism thing has taken on a life of its own. This organization used the number 6 pick on him and then did everything they could to **** up his development. I can't imagine why anyone would expect him to be anything resembling a finished product at this point, but that seems to be the expectation.

Who?

As for the Bamba criticism, sure, it has you're not wrong but the flipside of that is because it's obvious there are issues. Wether it's the Magics fault or Mo's or both is for me at least at this point in time kind of pointless as a debate because looking at the future of this team now I don't know if Bamba should be a part of that for the money/role he may be expecting. We'll see.

You can't fix Awareness/IQ and Stamina/Endurance. On top of that Bamba is only effective if he plays less than 18 minutes a game because of those issues.

I was referring to Mark Eaton and Manute Bol, who were the premier rim protectors in the 80s, but you can lump Mutombo and Ben Wallace into the mix as well.

I'm not arguing that Bamba isn't without his flaws, but the lack of a post game isn't among them. There are only a handful of guys in the NBA that are actually valuable in the post. It is probably useful on a situational basis for many other players when a particular mismatch dictates it, but Bamba's value is as a rim protector. Anything else is just icing on the cake. The mobility, the 3-point shooting, the rebounding, and the finishing around the rim could make him more than just a rim protection specialist, but none of that is really there yet. He is still very much a project with a lot of upside.

I know it seems as though I'm a Bamba apologist, but I'm really not. He has a lot to prove. It's undeniable that he alters a lot of shots any time he is on the floor though. That's an exceptionally valuable skill. We should have more answers than we do at this point, but we are where we are. I'm not making a decision on him until we have to make a decision on him.

I thought he was even more famous for some gigantic contract later...poor guy (although I'd happily take that legacy).

Return to Orlando Magic
