This was talked about the day Mosley got hired as head coach and is now official.

President of Basketball Operations, General Manager and Head Coach now all have the same amount of time left on their contracts.

Deleted my post about it, but the reaction to this is going to be interesting to say the least

Well deserved. They came here, despite "evaluation year" memes, they get rid off bad players (Hezonja, Payton) right away.
They cleaned our books, never gave bad contract (i dont view JI and Fultz contracts as bad).
They did some great trades, never really lost one.
Drafting is hit or miss. Only obvious mistake is Bamba who even i saw as potential bust before draft.
I was in favor of trading Gordon and leaving Vucevic, but in hindsight they made good decision. Wagner is my favourite magic player by far right now.
I am glad they move picks into the future, they have discipline and enough courage to not make dumb moves to please fans,
Tanking is not pleasant but they did it right so far. We are bad but staying in games lately, not much more you can ask for.
Now its interesting when they will push their chips. Hope not too soon.
Its hard to give them a grade before they use real assets but i would give them 8/10 for asset accumulation phase.

Weltman has put forth a pretty decent blueprint for any other small market basketball ops guy out there who wants to extend his career with a team for as long as possible.

Come in, preach evaluation and patience for a couple seasons despite knowing the limited ceiling of the players on your roster, show a bit of growth and improvement which results in some 6-8th seed first round exits, && then when every bit of the lemon is squeezed dry, trade off everybody like everyone in the fanbase has been clamoring for years and throw out some taglines like youth movement and growth which are sure to excite them again, despite the 15-25 win seasons that are sure to follow.

It hasn’t all been bad. The Vuc trade was a big win despite how long it took, && I’d say their drafting has hovered right around average to slightly above.

I definitely wouldn’t say they earned these extensions, however. Maybe they’ve shown enough to have some level of comfort in their ability to lead a rebuild, but this wasn’t earned.

I guess I’m fine with it, but it’s definitely been a mixed bag for both.

I'm for continuity right now.
It hasn't been perfect (non use of 2nd rd picks or late 1sts bother me)
This past draft probably swung them in the approve category vs. fire for me.

2026 is a long leash for a couple of guys that haven't really done anything?

Other than a surprise rookie season for Franz, WeHam haven’t added one single piece that could be considered core for a future championship team in the 4-5 years with the team. I don’t know why you’d want to guarantee them another 4 from here at this point in time but maybe Martins didn’t want to create another Hennigan situation that encourages more Ibaka, Biyombo and Harris deals to rush the rebuild?

Isaac - unhealthy
Fultz - unhealthy + broken shot
Bamba - unhealthy + slow development
WCJ - rotation worthy and on a decent contract
Chuma - sub meh so far
Cole - polarising spark plug player
RJ - all athleticism no skill
Suggs - slow start to rookie season but still solid
Franz - their only truly successful pick to date.

These next couple of draft picks are really going to determine the future for WeHam. If we’re still ranking bottom 3 in 2 seasons I think WeHam’s seat gets hot then.

While i havent been thrilled with them, this is the right thing to do. Getting rid of them after say the end of this year would basically just slow the re-build. You would bring in a new guy with his own vision, that might or might not include our guys including coach mosley, so getting rid of them might just start the rebuild again

The worked with ownership to start the rebuild, everyone expected a couple of very low seasons, no reason to panic now

To play devils advocate for a second
Isaac - Weham drafted the BPA and he looked good, they cant control injuries
Fultz - Low risk, possibly high reward acquisition. They took a shot, he showed some promise his first year as a starter, could still be a long term guy here
WCJ - He was the minor piece of a big trade, hard to complain
Chuma - Again, lower risk\high reward prospect. Without injury, he would of been a top 10ish pick, maybe even higher (he was a better college player with similar skillset to patrick williams who went top 5 the next year)
Cole - I disagree 100% with him not being a core piece in 4-5 years, i value him alot more than most on here and think he is going to be a very good playe for a long time
Suggs - Too early, but there was no way they could pass on him when he fell into their laps

Bamba, hated the pick when they made it and tried to convince myself other wise since then, but yeah, not much to show for this one
RJ - Shown flashes, and still very young (still only 20), so not ready to write him off. He just needs to learn to slow down and play with more control.

I suppose it was inevitable when we committed to the rebuild. Howver, the rebuild was a few years too late.

Just to be clear, this is not new news. This was openly discussed as something that would be happening when Mosley was hired back in July.

It's just official now.

you are glad they trade good 2nd round picks for worse 2nd round picks in the future? you dont think this team could use Herb Jones, Ayo, Luke Garza, Aaron Wiggins, THT, Terrence Mann, Jalen McDaniels, etc

Picks lose most of their value after player is selected. Chance to find really impactful player in 2nd round is around 2,5%. When you factor that we evaluate every player and trade only if we believe he is not really all that impactful that percentage falls well below 1%. When you factor that you will propably miss even if you use that pick becouse all teams missed at least once so far the value is really low unless you use it for financial reasons or you are really drained from young players.
If we spot impactful player we will use our first round pick to get him. Players you mentioned are nice but they dont really matter in the end. Look at Miami, they spot undrafted players who happen to be better than most second rounders.
Of course you can always play coward like Boston, use every pick, get mad that you got expected return and lose all your assets before you are ready to compete.

I don't mind this 'news' but objectively, it makes no sense. Yes, they made the playoffs... but with Hennigan's core group. And now they're the worst team in the NBA (even though that is likely intended).

I'm very much 'meh' about this whole situation until we land a superstar and are on the road to building a contender.
