Johnathan Isaac our best player?

Post#1 » by mattdelray1220 » Wed Mar 16, 2022 5:59 pm

Is JI our best player? I understand he has not played in quite some time. Maybe the real question should be "Is Johnathan Isaac the player with the most potential on our roster?

I have loved what I have seen from Wagner and Carter this year. I am bullish on Suggs, Fultz, and Cole to be at the very least starters/contributors going forward.

When it comes to talent and potential, I just don't currently see a player on our roster who stacks up next to JI.

Maybe I'm wrong?

He was close to overtaking Vuc when he went down. I could see him being our best player next season.

Yup, I could see him being our best defender at least. He needs to improve his offense and shooting. But I agree, he is our best player

nope, he was not and is not. very good defensive player (though his reputation has reached Paul Bunyan status, probably because he hasnt been on the court in 2 years) but not a good offensive player.

I think so, if 100% healthy, he is our franchise player

If he's our franchise player we are going nowhere.

I'm not trolling, but I can't consider him our best player since he spends more time off the court than on it. He's already a strong defender but needs to further develop his offense, which can't possibly happen if he continues to sit on the sideline.

136 games in 5 years, you dont have to state that you arent trolling when you question his availability.

No. You can’t be the best player if you can’t play.

I’m an FSU alumni.

I’m a big optimist in the talent JI offers.

Until I have a CONSISTENT reason to feel otherwise, Isaac is not a part of the Orlando Magic rotation going forward.

The only people who say he is are the ones who are so desperate to have a franchise player that they invent one in their heads

Isaac is a very good defender, but thats it
He has no offensive creating ability, an average jump shot, poor ball handling

Like ive said for years, hes a 1 dimension player, basically a 3&D guy with a questionable 3 (and needs someone to create the opportunity for him)

i dont think id even have him in our top 5 best players next year if he did come back (which would only be for 20 games tops anyways). Cant even say he would be better than Chuma

To compete in the nba you need elite offensive creator or elite defensive team with at least one freak rim protector. We have no elite offensive talent, even Wagner and Carter are projected to be second options at best. We have one potential freak rim protector. Even if he has 30% chance to remain healthy his upside is the highest on our team.

When was the last time a team a "elite defensive team with at least one freak rim protector" was actually a contender without an elite offensive creator? Orlando in 2009?

Perhaps :) Even if you need elite offensive creator you still need freak defenders. Davis, Giannis, Green, Siakam+Kawhi, Duncan, Garnett.
Very rare specimens and Isaac is the only one who is similar.

What he brings to the defensive end is unquestionably special. There is an element of physical ability in playing good or even great defense. JI with a torn acl is still probably a better defender than mo bamba. I want to be on the optimistic side believing that his recovery is taking longer because they're working on making both knees stronger than ever so he will be more durable and play a full season and God willing a full career...buy I'm not gonna lie I hold my breath every time fultz hits the deck and it's gonna be the same when Isaac comes back.
The one interesting thing is one of weham had a comment talking about JI and Fultz a few weeks back and he basically said they'd both been working on shooting the 3 and more or less conceded that Fultzs game wasn't really reliant on the 3, but more his mid range shot and ability to drive and kick or get to the rim. However I remember a comment a specifically about JI and his 3 point shot looking very improved. They're pretty tight lipped usually so definitely something to look out for.

Just listened to the interview and he is doing contact workouts and that the medical likes a long ramp before he's able to play in a game. What took so long was they were having problems getting the muscle around the knee to 100% match the other.

We were definitely a different team with him in the floor. Best player? Maybe. Hard to say with the current roster because so many pieces have changed since his last meaningful game.
