There is no question that rebuilding in the NBA requires patience and a little luck.

For the Orlando Magic, the patience part will require an understanding that the sustainability of the roster they're building outweighs any shortcut to a return to the playoffs. Orlando's front office has realized that building a competitive roster for the foreseeable future will come via in-house development, the draft, shrewd trades and not excessive spending in free agency.

"We do need to develop these young guys," President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman told the media before the season started. "We definitely want to move them forward. We want our team to grow and develop. The sooner the better. That said, we're not going to sacrifice the bright future that's in front of us for a sugar high, which I kind of felt like we had been doing previously."

As the Magic enter Year Two of their roster transformation, here is a look at all the big decisions that await this offseason, starting with the state of the roster.

Orlando has three draft picks in the top 35 this June, including a likely top-four selection. The Magic also own nine first-round picks in future years (they are owed first-round picks from Chicago and Denver).

Having 32 & 35 with this FO sounds on paper a lot more intriguing than it is.

I guess "future years" means the next 7? Long after this FO is gone (along with the fans and, possibly the team).

Don't you mean CHAMPIONSHIP YEAR?

We'll probably take that 32 & 35th pick and trade it out for a mid 40's pick plus cash consideration then we'll sell that for cash and a future 2nd round pick.

The Magic got Indiana's 2nd round pick this year AND Milwaukee's 2026 2nd for #45 in 2020.

For anyone hates when The Magic deals 2nd round picks, hat was a great trade.

Having 2 high 2nds could give The Magic some nice flexibility to do some things on Draft Night.

Sorry to burst your bubble Howard, but the Magic will either sell those picks for cash or push them further down into the future. They've hit a point in their roster where there is too much youth.

Only way I see them using it is if they trade away some of our younger guys to make room for new young guys.

Sadly, they haven't shown the ability to quickly diagnose what they have in players so I think they will continue to treat each year just like their infamous first year labeled, the Evaluation Year.

I don't hate spinach. I just won't eat it, because I don't want to give people a reason to judge me. So every time it's there, I just say, I'll try some later. ...and life is GREAT!

I never said I thought they'd use them to pick a player.

They very well might not use either with all the youth on this team.

They might be used to get more future 2nds but my point is trading #45 in 2020 for #35 in 2022 and another future 2nd down the line is a good investment.

No cash. Magic usually try to get 2nds back that can always be trade chips. Better than have them than a player they'd cut.

You do need to commit a roster spot to a high 2nd most likely.
