Jalen Brunson?
Jalen Brunson just dropped 42 points against Utah in a home win. Dude is clearly the 2nd option behind Doncic all season.
Even though he is a second round pick but he is probably least appreciated Guard in the league. He can play 1 and he can play 2. He can be a starter and he can be a sixth man.
If I were Orlando, I'd offer him a near max front loaded contract this offseason since he is a free agent.
Also one Portland fan floated the Anfernee Simons S&T idea. I think it could work. But I don't think POR is going to let him walk.
But If I were Magic, I'd get a star in Brunson

Let me just say that your screen name has nothing to do with your performance, as proved in the above post.

Re: Jalen Brunson?
I remember watching him play for the Wildcats, seeing how well he played during March Madness and I was thinking maybe Orlando could take him in the second round. Especially if we were going to miss on Trae, so on draft night I went to bed after picking Bamba as I had work the following day hoping we would've picked Brunson, but Dallas beat us to him :/.
Anyway, I would love him here but we would need to shift our guards to make it work. I'm not sure what price he would command but as much as I like him I wouldn't want to offer him a near max contract right now.

I wouldn’t offer him a max. Something around 4/80 would be much more reasonable but I’m sure Dallas will offer more

can they? they have $132mil tied up in 8 players with big contracts, (none Brunson) and another $15mil with smaller bench deals.

Re: Jalen Brunson?
Is Brunson really that big a "get"? There would certainly be a bidding war to some extent and I'm just not sure he's really that impactful. He shoots at a really high level but isn't high volume, so it's not like he's going to come in and bomb away (if he did, it would be a new thing)...I'm always negative about undersized guards, but on the other hand, I love those killers from 'Nova...I just don't know how big the upside is to justify the acceleration of the rebuild.

I’m not ready to make an all in at this point for someone like Brunson. Anton maybe.
I want to see one more year with our 1st round pick before we go heavy on a free agent.

Brunson averaged 20.4 PPG, 7.5 APG and 3.9 RPG on a .493/.350/.806 slash in 17 games without Luka this season.
Dallas went 8-9 in those 17 games.

I think he’d easily become our best guard?

I don't doubt that. I'd be supportive if the price was right or my valuation is too low...I just have been hearing for months (podcasts) that, unless someone breaks the bank, he wants to stay in DAL. I don't know him that well...I'll take another look - maybe he really could be that LEADER young vet that comes in and puts the team on his back. It's a great story...getting out of Luka's shadow, etc (I've been saying it for years about CJ being his own Dame).

No thank you, he is a nice plater, this is why Weham was trying to draft him few years ago but now it s too late, he is not worth a max contract
I d rather have simons than him

I don't think anybody in the league is talking about a max deal for Brunson.
I think I'd take Brunson over Simons (for the same money-assumed)...we need a game manager as much or more than just skills. Simons, IMO, is fool's gold...not a bad player at all, but very likely to get overpaid vs his real contribution. Simons might be a star, but I'm hesitant to base it on such a small sample size of good play.
I'd be psyched for either, but I'd be hoping WeHam knows a lot more than I do about their respective future trajectories. Either might also point to a bit more of a roster re-shuffling than I think many of us expect ...Fultz, Suggs, RJ, and Cole already don't belong on the same roster-I hope this is the summer they sort their cards.

imo Sign & Trade is way more realistic option for teams who want Brunson than outright FA.

lets get real, if Orlando really wanted to draft him they could have. he went 33 and we had the 35th and 41st. we easily could have traded up a few to insure getting him. This part is what is what i hate about our FO. they come in with a specific draft plan, which works when you have a top-10 pick. but then when players drop, like Ayo did last year as an example, they dont know what to do and just punt their picks.

i see the reverse. I see Fultz and Suggs able to be game managers, whereas we need more creative scorers on the team. I like Brunson and felt that both him and Bridges off that Nova team would be good. its a hard call, Brunson more a scoring guard in a 6'1 body. Simons a scoring guard at 6'3. both small for their position, but Brunson has never been a big assist guy at the PG spot. More Jameer Nelson'ish.

I'm all for it. We make him an offer, Brunson explains to DAL that he WANTS to go, they propose a SnT to benefit both (but we still have the leverage due to our ability to outright sign him a la Grant Hill). What would DAL want? I would say NOT future picks so much as Luka is ready NOW. Maybe a 3pt shooting, shot blocking Center - for starters + a flamethrower bench scorer to play off of Luka's gravity? Include Cole - a young guy who could, conceivably, do everything Brunson does in a slightly larger package, for a lot less $$ ?
Bamba (10m), TRoss, Cole for Brunson(17m) & Josh Green? (They get 3 guys that can hit open 3's around Luka). If Brunson isn't a 20ppg team leader, DAL might actually win this deal...Cole could be REALLY good in a controlled role (like Brunson has been-makes me wonder if Brunson is actually > Cole in 2023)
We still maintain some cap space to pay Harris for a couple of years, we draft high and...
Fultz, Suggs, MCW
Brunson, Harris, RJ
Franz, Green
Jabari, Okeke, M. Wagner
WCJ, Isaac
...use our 2nd's to get pure shooters, hoping one will make the cut, OR add to them to trade into mid first to get another real C - Kessler, Williams?

Re: Jalen Brunson?
Maybe, DAL would go for something centered around Harris for Brunson (SnT's)...Harris's defense is superior and he seemed to regain the shooting form that got him that monster deal a few years ago...we could throw in RJ to save a little money since he'll surely be displaced... Do Fultz & Brunson followed by Suggs & Cole, in similar guard lineups give us strong guard play for 48 mins? Do they kill each other in practice?
I'm still preferential to bigger guards, but there's something here maybe

I don't know why you would work out a SnT deal for a UFA if you have to cap space to sign them outright. Why give up assets to make it happen? I suppose if they want something that we'd like to get off the roster? The issue with Dallas is money. Are they willing to go into the luxury tax to try to keep this team together? There will be some financial pain for a year or two if they pay market value to keep Brunson without dumping some salaries.
