Time to dump the Disney logo?

Post#1 » by davey_wavy » Tue May 3, 2022 1:02 pm

With everything going on with FL vs Disney, I don’t want the team to get thrown into the political battle because of our jerseys (regardless of who you side with). If we decide not to renew our deal with Disney, who would you like to see on the jersey? Local? National? Global?

I don’t know why but I wouldn’t mind seeing a tech company like Sony or Samsung on our patch

They will get thrown into the political battle if they change it now. I wouldn't put it past the DeVos family to decide to do this since they are pretty hardcore Republicans. Disney is what Orlando is known for, I say keep the logo and who cares about all the other BS going on. I think both sides are in the wrong with everything that is going on.

As long as Disney is paying a fair market price, I see no reason why the Magic organization would look to escape the sponsorship agreement they have in place with them.

I mean if the Devos's want to dive into the Populist culture wars it seems like they might get beat up for more than siding with the Governor. They probably should continue to be as invisible as possible on any subjects outside of philanthropy and trying to win basketball games.

There are a lot more pro-LGBT people than the cooky far-right people in our state.

Disney never should have weighed in at all, and the Magic certainly shouldn't either. There's nothing wrong with the law, it's perfectly reasonable and the media has grossly misrepresented it. The Magic are fine in Florida, fine in Orlando, and there's no reason to drop Disney as a sponsor.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

I'm fine with the intent but I'm not fine with the vagueness of the law. I cannot understand why either side can't clearly write what is and isn't against the rules.

Also, I'm tired of all of this political sh.... from both sides.

I agree that Disney should've kept out of it and I agree with the bill as well, but the Governor made this a bigger deal than what it needed to be by doing what he did. So much for free speech.

Some feel like the bill doesn't go far enough. In many countries, they've outlawed being gay.

Over 50% of Disney employees are gay and the biggest event of the year is gay days. They probably felt obligated to say something. Luckily, Desantis retaliated quickly against them because they didn't agree with his bill. Sarcasm

I personally wouldn’t be surprised to see the Disney sponsorship end, but just due to the nature of business. Maybe Disney stops it, but I really don’t think either side will end the partnership. I personally don’t care about all the political stuff revolving around Disney right now. I think all the hyperbole the bill that caused this is just that, hyperbole, both sides.

As for potential sponsor replacements, Advent Heath or Orlando Health seem like legit possibilities, same with Nemours, Darden or Universal, all local based companies.

It's a really small minority who cares what Disney said about the bill. My guess is the pro-LGBT community outnumbers them 10x and will probably rally in the fall elections.

I'm all for keeping Disney since they literally put us on the map but if it did have to change I'd hope it's something local like Florida Natural Orange Juice, plus it would match our orange jersey. Or I'd love to see the Florida Agriculture symbol but I highly doubt our state would ever pay for that. I'm all about Flo-grown.

I don't know if you knew this or not, but people hate Disney on both sides of the aisle and for different reasons.

You don't have to be far-right to dislike Disney.

I've hated Disney for years prior to all the political talking points.

My first job was at Sea World and I know that the majority of my coworkers were, I'm not. Also, over the years I've done 100's of hours working at Disney and that's my first hand observation.

Wonder how many democrats running for election speak at the pride festival right before the election?

It’s all politically motivated garbage. The media turned that bill into an anti-gay law rather than what it appears to be. To me all this law is is a check down on what’s appropriate for kids to learn at certain ages. There’s nothing in that that says “ don’t say gay”, that’s a media creation and people fell for it in droves.

That’s not to say I’m super duper psycho right, or left. I just try to look at things logically. For every good thing Desantis does, and he has, he’s done things that are blatant political pandering. Joe Biden does the same so they’re all guilty.

I personally don’t have an issue with a bill that gives parents the onus on teaching very complex things, and out of schools until kids reach a certain age to process something very complicated. On the other hand, revoking Disney, our areas largest employer of statuses that keep local taxes and resources for the general public and not the parks just because of some CEO voiced his opinion is straight foolish and politically petty to boot.

if you have problem with "boys and girls" as you call bunch of 6 years olds... lol..just lol

There is certain age where it's simply more appropriate to learn about sexuality in general.

It's never been taught at that age, it's just a blowhorn to rally the base. They keep saying a caravan of illegal immigrants are coming to take our jobs too. They are using scare tactics.

The only difference now is if a child asks the teacher about a same-sex relationship that they saw the teacher could be arrested if they answer them.

You may not know American history but they're also trying to erase teaching about slavery in public schools also.
