ORLANDO VISITS-TOP PROSPECTS

Post#1 » by orthoman » Thu May 26, 2022 11:58 am

Forgive me if this is an idiotic question...

When do the top tier prospects visit Orlando, and if/how are we able to obtain feedback from the FO, and is there a video highlight available to the general public...such as the Orlando Magic website?

Or, is this evaluation all private behind closed doors, with no expected leakage of information, which is what I'm expecting to hear
and confirm from all of you.

Thanks

There are usually interviews with the top players after they work out with the team, but you'll be doing well to learn anything from them. That's about it generally.

The Magic will post the media interviews whenever the big draft prospects start coming into town, which should start in the next week or two.

They never show workout highlights and I doubt you’ll get a lot of coaching or front office feedback.

We’ve seen lower draft guys already coming in, but they won’t get media interviews.

I asked in another thread BUT isn't there a NBA rule that each team can only interview/workout a select number of players?

Oh.. I thought as some other posters in other boards said you can only workout 20 players. Like even if you have 5 picks or just 1 pick, you can only invite 20 players to your facility to interview, workout and whatnot.

David Roddy is interesting.. he's got that Draymond build, 6'5 with a near 7' wingspan and 255lbs

Shot 48.5% on 25ft+ 3s this season. His offensive synergy numbers were great and he can score in so many ways.

1.127 PPP on offense which was in the 96 percentile, including:
Post ups - 1.095 PPP (92%)
Jump shots - 1.231 PPP (96%) with catch & shoots at 1.305 (93%)
Jumpers off the dribble - 1.148 PPP (96%)
P&R 1.134 (95%) | 1.227 PPP (96%) as the ball handler / 1.256 PPP (83%) as the roll man
Great at cuts with 1.683 PP (98%)

I dont think he'll ever be a starter in the league, but seems like someone that could be a valuable backup and add a scoring punch to the bench

Draymond build? I must need glasses cuz he looks more like Big Baby Davis build than Draymond.

Yeah lol I misspoke, I just meant strictly from a H/W and wingspan aspect. He’s not near the athlete and defender Dray is either. Just the first short PF type with long arms that came to mind.

Summary so far from the Sentinel

Some very interesting choices in there. A few guards, considering the glut we have already. If it was just Nembhard, I'd have assumed it was to get Chet Intel, but there's TyTy & Keels also. Smells of trade-up scenario from our two SRPs.

Lots of wings and scorers in general, which is welcome. Only a couple of centers tho, which I'm surprised by. Guys like Sochan you would wonder how they fit and where they'd be taken- in a big trade down to mid lottery?

I’m still at being more than happy with Jabari or Paolo.
It is very close between those two for me. If I had to pick, I’d slightly lean Jabari, but would be fine with either.

Stay away from Chet, please.

I feel the same.

I give Jabari the edge over Banchero because of his defense. The foundation of defense and shooting is a good start.

If we just tweak his game a little he can even be better. For example, he shot a lot of long two's and his percentage was a little worse than his 3-point percentage. If he turned those long two's into 3-pt. attempts, it'll elevate his PPG even more.

What your take on Sharpe? Think he’s in play as well?

Nah, Sharpe isn’t in play at 1. We could trade down to 4 and get him there.

It wouldn’t shock me if one of Ivey or Sharpe sneaks into the top 3.
