Ideal Mo Bamba Contract
I know the board is pretty split on if we even want him back. I am definitely team Bamba but obviously has to make sense financially. Especially since he most likely projects to be a back up. My TOP is 4yr/44. Above that I am looking to move on. I am sure The Magic FO probably feels similar. 3 years would be even better where I may do 3/39.

4 years 44 million? That’s the same deal WCJ got isn’t it? Mo has NOT earned that. I’m thinking 2 years 15 million. Or we spend that money on a different center. I don’t dislike Mo, but we shouldn’t be in the business of overpaying.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

With WCJ on a 4 year $50 million with his injury concern but promising play
... And mo and his injury and still off of potential monicker... I'd say 4 year $35-40 million... With an option. That's more than the mid level exception on the upper end ... And 3 years of security for him and his fam. Contract will have him at 28 for final contract or 2. He should be happy with that... And he gets to continue as a magic player. Lol

He signed a 4yr/50. I understand what you are saying but I would argue that WCJ has outplayed his contract. Believe me I thought Mo would have been further along than he is but I think last year showed me enough that he is worth 4/44. There is even a small part of me that believes he too can outplay that contract. I may be wrong.

Re: Ideal Mo Bamba Contract
It really depends on how the FO truly believe in the resurgence of JI. A 4/40 is fair, with the last year being a 3rd option. I think we could move on from Mo and draft a player like Koloko in the early 2nd or late 1st and not be in a total **** position, and save some cash. A front court rotation of our #1 pick, WCJ, JI, Koloko, Mo Wagner, and at times Chuma isn't terrible.
But, i'd rather bring back Mo on a team friendly deal.

4/44 or 3/39? So are you suggesting we pay him close to Wcj Money?
My gawd.
I’d pay him a guranteed minimum deal with a clause for it to be a maximum deal if he becomes MVP. Or a million per accomplished achievement.
If that doesn’t motivate him to play, I dont know what will.

Re: Ideal Mo Bamba Contract
If the Magic aren't planning to spend money in free agency this summer, then I'd offer Bamba his qualifying offer of 1 year, 10M to be the backup C.
If they're planning to spend money this summer, then I'd just let him walk.

Re: Ideal Mo Bamba Contract
I'd do something along what Knightro said.
I don't think there's motivation issues, more coordination stuff. If every player can dominate every night, they would. I've certainly seen enough Magic players refuse to jog back or rotate to the right person or give 100% effort to pile it on Bamba.

I agree with Knightro, once again, here.
10 mil/1 yr. if we aren't spending $$ on FA's

The argument to bring Bamba back is that Wendell has really never played a full season.

Re: Ideal Mo Bamba Contract
I like the 3/33 and 4/44 ideas. Not bad money for what he brings to the table even as a backup. Great contract to use in trades.

Meh. You might as well let him walk this summer if that's your plan. You lose his restricted status the following summer and he'll leave regardless of how he performs.

Re: Ideal Mo Bamba Contract
I realize the question is "what's the ideal contract for Bamba," but it's neither here nor there since he's a restricted free agent. We're not going to outbid ourselves and he's going to take the best offer made to him.
That said, if there is no market for him and we hold all the cards, I would only do the deal that gives us maximum flexibility to trade him at any time, even as early as next season.
