Official Speculation Thread: The Regular Season is Underway

Nice to see Simons having a basketball camp at Lake Brantley high school today.
For those of you that don't know, that's in Longwood, Fl., which is a suburb of Orlando.
I'd give him the max next season if he only accepted Portland's qualifying offer.

The max for a 6'3, 180lbs shooting guard that puts up 17, 4 and 3 (and 0.5 steals, which is low) on a team that was diehard tanking most of the year? I guess he's young (and his max is not exceedingly high), but he's not THAT young. Could you elaborate on your thought process?

I wouldn't give him the max, but Simons played way better when Lillard went down and he was moved to full time point guard.
Lillard got shut down for the season on 12/31 and from that point forward Simons averaged...
23.4 PPG, 5.8 APG and shot .456 FG, .423 3PT (on over 10 attempts per game), and .866 from the FT line over the next 27 games.
And Portland wasn't totally tanking at that point, they went 12-15 in those 27 games.

We could probably find a way to offer Simons a 4-year max this season and still keep Bamba. We would probably have to stretch Ross' contract.

IF Harris and Ross are gone, id be fine with signing Simons... not sure about the MAX though. He really command that much?

We'd have to overpay a little to get him. I'd rather pay him a max deal starting at 27m or whatever he's eligible for, rather than paying Harris and Ross.

I'm down with overpaying for Simons. Is there reason to believe Portland wouldn't match?

There’s rumors out there they prefer to chase bigger fish in free agency and trades and retool around Lillard.
Simons was a lot better on the ball than he was off it and as long as Lillard is there, he’s gonna be the primary on-ball guy, so perhaps they let Simons walk or work a sign and trade.

That's gonna suck cuz Fultz, Suggs and Wagner are also better on ball. Well, if Simons is better 2 out of 3 of them then why not.

They’ll likely use Simons to get the players Dame wants.

Another guy that struggled off the ball...unless we're going to swap one of our PG's and more, I don't see the point and I really can't imagine he's a max guy after a couple of months of stat padding...I'm definitely not uninterested, but I don't think he's our next T-Mac.

Bill Duffy is Simons' agent and he also represents Chet.

I think the only way it makes sense to sign Simons is if they are ready and willing to immediately trade away two of Fultz/Anthony/Hampton.
I’d only bring him in to start on the ball if I was bringing him in.

Can Simons become a star in this league? If not, I'd rather keep Fultz, Suggs and Cole.

I'm thinking most likely he'll be swapped for Bradley Beal.
It's the only deal that makes sense for both players/organizations.

Every great team needs a tough guy/tough guys to get them over the hump or help energize them.
I've never seen a team without goons, dirty players, or tough guys win a title since I've watched basketball.
I would welcome this trade This makes sense for everyone.
