I'm starting this thread in hopes that I don't have to hear Victor Wembayama's name, or our lottery odds, or anything remotely "Tanky" (at least for a while). Hopefully, all of our promising talent, cap space, and trade assets doesn't immediately sink into that miserable mentality...at least until the Free Agent period ends -or, at least, begins. I hope at least some of the other threads can focus on actually improving -for a change.

Don’t really care if the Magic tank or not now that we have a ton of young prospects on the roster.

Obviously landing one of those guys would be great, but I’m not going to cry about it if Orlando’s young guys play above expectations.

I don’t think we will have the obscenely bad injury luck as last year so I can see us finishing 5-8 in the tank standings. Assuming we don’t jump up in the standings, we can still find a good tier 2 guard prospect.

No tanking effort probably this year. Sans any injuries... i wouldn't be surprised if we are at the cusp of the lottery at the end of the year.

Those Thompson twins look good too!

But I actually hope this year there is no purposeful tanking, at least not in beginning. If we lose, we lose. But lets try to play meaningful basketball with intentions to win.

I have a feeling that we may not bring any more guards here. We already have six Ross, RJ, Cannady, Cole, Suggs, and Fultz.

Do you think the Lakers offer Mo the full mid-level exception? I see he's out in California right now.

I dont think so. We would propably value cap space over THT.

We only have the TPMLE of $6.34M to offer. I don't know where it will go since we have so many holes to fill, lol.

He's an UFA. You can sign him outright.

Detroit may try to sign Harris. He went to Michigan State.

I kind of like THT, but he's precisely what this team doesn't need. Gary Harris might be exactly what we need...at least until we found a younger, bigger version for the long run. I really hope we keep him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he moved to a contender. A return to DEN and Jokic's beautiful passes would be my bet. Second would be if he likes the ORL community and team...unless we low-ball him, then why stay?

Sometimes the grass is not greener. A one year 20M contract for Harris resolves this off-season (plus/minus Bamba) without hampering cap-space moving forward.

Let's say Harris thrives, then fine: resign him in 2023 to a good, fair 5-year deal.
Let's say a mega-star can be had, well Orlando could have max or even super-max funds to make a run.

This makes a lot of sense to me. A resigned Harris - only - leads to this opening night roster:

Fultz/Anthony/Cannady
Harris/Suggs/Hampton
F-Wagner/Ross/Houstan
Banchero/Okeke
Carter/Isaac/M-Wagner

I am ok with that. It is unbalanced roster and at least two mid-season trades need to be found. But for opening night, it helps players settle in to their given roles.

2023 draft is stacked. I am almost certain we wont trade our's and Bulls first round picks this year.



Bunch of big wings, dynamic ball handlers. Like 20 solid prospects with size and skill. No wonder Spurs decided to tank this year, what a smart organization. I am fully against trading for Mitchell after watching this. Even finishing in play in gives us good position in draft. If we are good becouse Wagner and Banchero are good its great but i dont want to rise our floor for 2-3 seasons, spending all our assets and not increasing our ceiling.

Buy the time the kid you chose becomes a positive NBA player, there's s good chance you'll be struggling to keep all your young pieces paid and it'll have been 13-15 years of mediocrity.

Unless you get someone who is fully NBA ready and you can somehow shepherd all your young talent into extensions etc, you'll be facing some tough choices. Better, imo to shake out the roster this year-end and invest in a proven player vía trade.

Well we are extremely young, we are still in the development stage, just not tanking anymore. Even Memphis who is further along their path still drafts raw prospects like Zhaire Williams to increase their ceiling.
We cant keep everyone i agree, but i come to totally different conclusions than you. We should consolidate older talent and keep drafting younger talent on rookie deals. I agree we should made a trade soon, but a trade which makes sense for us. Now is propably not the best time. We need at least half a year to showcase some of our young talent and see what we really need around Wagner and Banchero. Going all in, not even knowing how pieces fit is kind of crazy unless we get proven elite talent like Durant.
In my opinion our core is Suggs, Wagner, Banchero and Carter. Wendell is on insane deal that makes things easier. I would refrain from paying significant money for any other player, unless they make some unexpected improvement.

Feels a bit premature to poo poo next year’s draft and the potential to improve through it. We’ve got a squad of young guys already who we’ll all be cheering to see play hard and improve. We look like we’ve got a legit franchise player for a change. We’re not built to tank as hard as teams like San Antonio or Indiana, so we know we’re not in that race which means Wembanyama is likely of lower odds to us - but that doesn’t mean we can’t dream about it?

Personally, I think we’ll realise we’re still another big piece (plus development) away from truly turning the corner, so I’m optimistic that the 2023 draft can help us there.
