My Long time Magic Friends think we should and will TANK again this season

I am really getting annoyed with fans/friends always wanting to tank every single season. We were out having some lunch yesterday afternoon and basically talked about the Magic. They all want to tank one or two more seasons and totally fine with losing again! They are not ok with me wanting to start winning this upcoming season
I have been a Magic fan since DAY 1 of the franchise and I honestly don't think that I can take another season of not being competitive.
I guess my question (since everyone on here is very knowledgeable with contracts, cap space, bla bla bla - Do any of you RealGM Magic fans think/wish we will have another season of Tanking in hopes of landing yet another high lottery pick?

I'm not a fan of tanking and never will be. I think you should try to win every game you can without sacrificing our youth.

Tanking is like gambling addiction. It miserable process, it makes everybody feel awful about themselfs but gambling person lives off story that one guy once won $50 000 000 ( in nba curency, Lebron, Hakeem). And that feeds into addiction and them returning to more.
What's the point of tanking again? Under this front office, in 6 years , Magic drafted 6th, 6th, 5th , 8th and 1st.
Before that Magic drafted 2th, 4th, 5th and 11th.
That's 9 lottery picks in 11 years. Maybe it's time to stop feeding into addiction ?

There is no actual need to tank. The young roster with horrible spacing will take a bunch of Ls naturally. The real question is, will we start seeing guys sit out at the end of the season again?

I was on Youtube the other night watching a video where the driver was recording his drive through Orlando (i-4) downtown, OBT, etc in 1994ish - It was actually a pretty cool video to see how Orlando looked back then. One thing I noticed in the Video was so many signs, cars, etc that showed support for the Orlando Magic. All over town in the video. Man, I just wish we could get back to those days where everybody in Orlando loves the Magic and it's not embarrassing to put a Magic sticker on my car or wear a Magic hat out in public (outside of Orlando)

Lol, I said and posted here way back after the Magic traded Dwight and went the tanking route that the Magic will take over 10 years of tanking and probably still not have a contender to show for it. The odds are stacked that you don't win in the lottery. You just pray to get lucky. Wouldn't you know it, they still don't have any guaranteed contending future after 10 years of sucking arse.

I'm more surprised people think we start going all in this offseason. This was always a 2-3 year asset accumulation thing. We doesnt even tanked 1 and half full seasons yet. Next season we probably doesnt go full tank, but we wont make big win now moves. If the team starts winning on the back of the youth the FO is happy, when we lose alot like almost every young team in NBA history, they are happy too.
This is the real evaluation season.
We see who of the backcourt players we keep, the last chance for Isaac & Fultz, checking if we hit on Paolo & if Franz can become a star or elite 3rd option role player, if Cole is a future bench player / starter or if his ego is too big for his future role in the hierarchy...

With the new lottery odds and this roster you try to win, and if it doesn't work it doesn't work, but we have enough to start trying properly now, no excuses

I do not see us tanking next year, this year we might but not to the extent of last year. We will likely play a lot the players we value more and not worry about how the lineup fits which will lead to bad spacing and maybe even defense which will lead to plenty of losses. Barring any miracles, I expect us to be at the bottom/top of the standings this year depending how you view it, lol.

Wembanyama is getting way overrated. His 3pt percentage is not great at all and his FT percentage is around 68 percent. Creating a losing culture for a 14 percent change to grab a guy this overrated is not worth it. If the Magic end up just out of the play in, then luck into a high pick fine, but they need to try to win. This guy is no Shaq.

I think we'll try to win the first 20 games or so and then evaluate whether to tank or continue to try to win.

I am not sure about either point.
I think this is a player-development season. That will mean that Orlando will not try to win-games per se, but will not tank as the best players will be playing all 82 games.
Right now the Magic almost has a team and the players simply need to get better. Space, pace and all that will lead to 24+ wins and a 30-win season is not far fetched.
Thus I see the last 20 games as being as competitive as the first 20 games.
..

Whether they should or shouldn’t tank next year isn’t super relevant.
They are. That’s what’s important.
My guess would be that this is the last year of
the tanking process and they are going to spend big next summer.

Yep, I'd agree.

I still can't believe tanking needs to be explained again in this context.
The players and Mosely are NOT going to actively tank and lose games.
The team is SUPER young and will all grow together until the Front Office decides to push the chips in with trades/free agency.
The Front Office is only capable of making the roster incomplete enough to "tank". However, this roster isn't filled with old washed vets and non-nba guys for the most part. They are already on record saying they aren't balancing the roster out this season, so of course its not going to make sense.
Magic fans should be ecstatic about watching a fun brand of basketball for once with Fultz/Suggs/Franz/Paolo/WCJ despite what the results will say next season. They will be BAD regardless because there isn't enough experience to win against older more developed teams.
TLDR; This isn't a "tank job" roster. It's a young roster that will at least be watchable for the first time in 10 years despite not winning a ton of games. Orlando will EARN a top 5 pick next season without tanking. Even if they don't Im fine with that because it means these guys have been developing.

Correct.
When I say the Magic are “tanking” next season, I mean the front office.
The front office is intentionally building the roster in such a way that they’re going to lose a lot of games and they’re totally fine with that.
They’re not going to use their cap space.
They’re not going to play veterans over younger guys.
They’re gonna play their young guys a ton of minutes, as much as they can handle, and those guys are gonna lose. A lot.

I have to say that I think this might be the first season the Front Office has actually done the right thing by doing what they love to do.. nothing.
