Orlando or Houston
All things considered.. Current roster, coaching staff, salary cap, salary flexibility etc..
If you could choose Houston or Orlando which team is set up for more success lets say over the next 3 seasons?

I would take Houston, but it's close.
The fact that they basically have the next 5 years of Nets unprotected draft picks certainly is a swaying factor.

Re: Orlando or Houston
I love that Houston has a clear hierarchy. Green will handle the rock and Jabari will benefit from the double teams… all while being bad enough for one more tanking season in what appears to be a strong draft. And to top it off, as Knightro mentioned, they have a ton of picks coming their way.

Houston, on paper, just looks like they'll have everything they need. Magic still have this shooting problem to solve.

I honestly will take Orlando because I like Banchero the most of all the prospects on both teams.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Over the next three seasons = Magic
Beyond three seasons = hmmmm, Houston has some nice pieces that if they work out, may be stellar
Houston really got lucky over the last couple of drafts.

Re: Orlando or Houston
I think the last two drafts went well for both Houston and Orlando and both have picks and cap going forward so the futures look very good for both teams, but Houston just seems to have a little bit more going for them as far as a deeper pool of current prospects
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I think it depends on which of both teams draft picks emerge as that SUPERSTAR player. If just one of either teams player evolves in that Luka,Curry,LBJ status, no matter who has more good players or draft picks, that team will have the better future.

Re: Orlando or Houston
Houston got more longtime potential because of the Nets picks but I like our current players more. Houston needed Paolo much more than Smith. If Sengun is maybe the player with the best passing skills in your team, you have a problem. Green is cool but his Archetype ends up most of the time as empty stats players. One way SG, without advanced play making skills.

My first thought when I read the question was i) Orlando will make the playoffs sooner. And ii) Houston looks to have a greater chance to win a title with the core.

Re: Orlando or Houston
For me its clearly Orlando. We propably have best player in Banchero, we have second best player in Wagner, we have third best player in Carter, i would take Suggs over Green and we have dark horse in Isaac.
Its hard for me to see how its close while we possible have 5 best players among both teams.
Green decision making is closer to Hampton than Suggs. Not a fan of undersized scorers with questionable defense. Jabari is so limited as a player, hard to tell what he will become but propably 3rd option if he improves a lot. Sengun is cool, i love his playstyle but you need to be rim protector or switchable as a big, right now he is neither.
I dont like how Houston is building their team and i would not switch in a milion years.

You’re definitely underrating Green. He is better than anyone on our roster currently. Sure, Banchero might end up better but as of today I’m putting him at #1

Re: Orlando or Houston
Depth-wise? Maybe them.
I like JalenGreen, truly think he is better than Banchero as a scorer, but I think a playmaker like Banchero is vital for any team’s success.
down the line, over the next 3 seasons, I doubt we’ll have the same roster. Probably half of our youth will be traded. Or close to half. There will be players in their 2nd contract or 3rd contract and that might be harder to fit in the cap if we have the same team. Not to mention, we have 5 1st round picks in the next 3 years.
The rockets are more manageable because they have Nets’ picks and most of their players are still on rookie deal in the next 3 years.
Talent-wise? Us.
We’ll likely be consolidating young players to get better talent to compete.
Success in the next 3 years? Us.
We started re-building earlier than them. And we have a lot more depth than then. Our current trajectory is upwards. They are still climbing up the springboard. We are already going to the edge of the springboard.

Re: Orlando or Houston
Ordinarily I'd be a bit glass-half-empty about Orlando compared to other rebuilding teams.
But personally I'd take Orlando between them and the Rockets.
Hou have the Nets picks but in a lot of cases they're swaps or they get the better of the two. It's a haul but it's not completely life-changing.
Coaching wise, it's probably a wash. Front office? I'm not a WeltHam fanboy but Hou don't seem to have anything much better.
Cap? Once Wall falls off they have plenty also.
Roster? I'm not crazy about it. There are a lot of me-first types or sort of exotic archetypes. Green is a cool cat who will be good and Sengun is such a fun guy to watch but I don't see a ton of well-meshed, high IQ, team-first guys.
Orlando's roster is very, very unexplosive. There's a potential shooting issue. Certain high picks have disappointed. But there are also some real basketball players now, guys with a good attitude and no small amount of skill. The defensive application is also a point of difference.
Our teardown has netted a really high-potential frontcourt. Our FO seems not to have much of a clue about guards, but that's hardly new for Orlando! If we can resolve the guard situation in the next 18 months, this team could be really really strong. I just don't see that in the tealeaves at this point for Houston.

I am not a fan of me first undersized guards. I was lower on Green before draft and i still am. I think its very hard to build a winning team around a player like him. If we could draft from all nba players i would pick Banchero, Wagner, Carter and Suggs before him. I would also easly pick Isaac before injuries. I am totally fine that people think otherwise. I was in minority wanting Carter over Bamba, i was in minority wanting Wagner and i was in minority wanting Banchero.

Re: Orlando or Houston
I'd rather have the Magic roster. The Rockets have a lot of first rounder the next few years. While I am not one that believes the Nets picks are going to be valuable (they are going to get plenty of assets back if they move Durant and Irving and still have Simmons).
The Rockets still do have a lot of picks they can trade if a star becomes available.
Over the next three years I'd go Magic, but it's close on the off chance Houston can get a trade done. I guess if Brooklyn really wanted to blow it up they have a trade partner in Houston and getting all their picks back, With Durant potentially going to a third team, and a young star going to Houston.

Is 6'4" barefoot an undersized guard? I am not a huge Green fan either, but Carter over Green is insanity talking. And as much as i like Isaac, given his question marks, that is crazy town, too.

Re: Orlando or Houston
I like this team.
Out of the couple other rebuilding teams we've been "competing" with over the past couple of years, I'd rank how much I like their cores as follows, currently.
1. Detroit
2. Orlando
3. Oklahoma City
4. Houston

Re: Orlando or Houston
I think we’ve got some interesting pieces again finally, but I probably look at other teams and think they’ve got more exciting futures ahead.
OKC: Chet, Poku, Giddey, Mann, SGA + Dieng + Williams
DET: Duren, Cade, Ivey
HOU: Sengun, Jabari, Tari, Christopher, Green
SAS: Keldon, Sochan, Vassell, Branham
ORL: WCJ, Paolo, Franz, Houstan, Suggs
To be honest there’s a stack of youth amongst all those teams and most of them a long ways off from fulfilling their potential. I wouldn’t be unhappy with any of these rosters though, if projecting the future.
My biggest gripe would be wanting to see WeHam get more aggressive at moving pieces earlier instead of just sitting on hands and hoping for internal improvement before risking letting a guy walk for nothing (almost Bamba), or proving he won’t cut it in the NBA (RJ).

Agree... other teams have quantity in exciting futures but I standby my statement that the team with the piece who will emerge first as that tier-1 superstar will leapfrog all other teams.
