APB on Paolo OR is he deferring to Franz

Since Jan 7, Paolo has seen a dip in scoring while Franz has seen a nice bump. Is this because Paolo is just going through a small “slump” (not really a slump, more of me just being spoiled and expecting more) OR do you think he’s deferring to Franz? OR neither the above?
Since Jan 7:
Paolo 16.5 ppg
Franz 27.5 ppg

Paolo has hit the rookie wall. He looks exhausted and all the extra defensive attention is making life more difficult for him. It's great that Franz has been able to pick up the slack. But Paolo probably needs a few weeks to a month to get his legs back under him.

He's thinking about Seattle
Nah but he started the month pretty strong. Rookie year will have ups n downs. He hit a little wall before a string of good games earlier in the month too

His shots aren't going in, he isn't getting to the FT line quite as frequently, he's getting a ton of ball pressure from the opponents, and he's seeing more double teams. I'm sure he's deferring at this point.

It's all about adjustments early in a player's career, specifically their first season and sometimes even into their second and beyond.
The player figures out early what he can do to get to his spots and make an impact. Then that gets on film and the defense makes adjustments to take those preferences away. The player has to make adjustments to the defenses' adjustments and on and on we go.
On top of that, Paolo has already surpassed his total minutes from last year at Duke... and there's THREE MONTHS left in the season.
It's a grind. It's perpetual adjustments. He'll be fine.

Paolo's best position is SF. Franz best position is SF.

I am starting to see a trend; Orlando is playing players out of position.
Maybe Fultz can suit up as a SF and end this conversation for good!
..

Isaac can at least rim protect. Paolo needs to get even stronger.

1. Rookie wall
2. Franz on fire
3. Position, scheme, teammate, and rotation adjustments
4. Teams still selling out on Paolo despite Franz literally setting them on fire. The Pelicans sent hard double teams at Paolo despite him not doing much that game??

1 thing i like that ESPN does that basketball reference does not. if you look at a players game log, it breaks it down by month which helps to see when a player hits that wall. PAolo has now played 39 games the exact same as he did last year. and for all that, he is still avg 20 ppg on 14 shots for January. his attempts are down since Jan 7, dont know if being tired or Mosely still tweaking lineups and offensive game plans.
and Im not saying he is Tatum, but if you look at Tatum's rookie year. 14-15 ppg Oct-Dec. 12 ppg Jan-Feb. and FG% was down like 7-8%.
my other concern, as big as he as and good an athlete, there should never be games where he doesnt have at least 5 rebounds.

is it? he keeps getting hurt there. maybe him playing PF or C might be better. I hope Mosely tinkers with it to see

All I can say is that there's some really misguided takes in here about players and their optimal positions moving forward.

I had an insane amount of fun watching Paolo and Franz in the beginning of the season when all our guards were out of commission. So I will go a little bit contrarian and say that part of it is that we are giving the ball to our Guards too much (with all due respect to Fultz’s solid play). Paolo and Franz are the kind of players that deserve the ball in their hands very often, because they’re literally even point forwards. The other part is not contrarian, it’s what everyone is saying; the rookie wall phenomenon.

Paolo will be fine, everyone goes through lulls during the season. I’m guessing Paolo plays a nice game against the Celtics tonight and gets back on track.

And-1
In every game Banchero has ever played, he has taken a FT. He has eight games with 10 or more FTs. Another five with 9. Another nine with 8.
Banchero is a rookie and will thus be below NBA average in key advanced stats. It is no surprise he is a minus player on Plus/Minus.
Orlando did not draft Banchero to "rim protect". They drafted him to score. And boy does he score!
