*First of all, I know a lot of people feel strongly that we should stay the course, make the picks and build thru the draft. NOTED...you don't need to add that here. I recognize that that is a valid path...just boring for our sake here.

We have our own 23, 24, 25...frps. We have CHI's 23 frp (top 4 protected) and DEN's 25 frp (top 5 protected). We have all of our 2rps.
We have plenty of expiring salaries, big and small, to match .

Which young player(s) would fit our needs and drop into our starting lineup nicely in return for picks and matching salary...and which pick(s) would you send for them?

I'll start by saying I'd welcome FVV, Dillon Brooks, or GTJ, but I'm not a believer in giving a frp for a pending UFA, unless we have a REAL strong reason to expect that they'll re-sign at a reasonable scale (for whoever they are). Something like the DEN pick or one of ours with significant protection is a maybe - dependent on the target player's value to us. I'd strongly consider it for an RFA, given our ability to match.

*You have to consider what the other team's situation is. For example, POR or GSW needs to win NOW - they'd value players over our picks if they were giving up anything of value. The best targets would be teams blowing it up, particularly decent young teams like ATL or TOR, that might just decide they're on the wrong path. More realistically, teams that are a year or two behind us in their rebuild like SAS, OKC, or UTA - who will value picks over players or might have an abundance at a different position of our need. (I honestly don't see ATL moving Trae, but you never know what's going on behind the scenes-and you should maybe fear that opportunity).

Here's a couple...

Unlikely he's available BUT what if we made them an offer they couldn't refuse? Vassell for CHI '23, DEN 25 & Okeke & RJ. I'd offer slightly less for Keldon Johnson. Both are significant for SAS, but they're SOOOO thick with wings. Ditto for Kevin Huerter.

ORL sends: TRoss & CHI '23
IND sends: Nembhard & Nesmith (sub in Duarte if needed)...IND has a very strong backcourt with Halliburton, Mathurin, Hield.

Best to wait till this summer

Booker if Phoenix becomes a seller (let s see, but it ll be VERY expensive)
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is OKc becomes a seller (unlikely)
BENNEDICT MATHURIN - (unlikely as Indi must consider him as a Core piece)
Moody (easy get)
trey-murphy-iii (if price is right they ll listen)
SHAEDON SHARPE (if price is right they ll listen)
DEVIN VASSELL (if price is right they ll listen)

from this list, Moody or Vassell

If vassell healthy , i m sure SA would bite for our best 2023 FRP + Bamba + few 2nd

My favorite target remains Simons.

God forbid any more young guards..... Simons is a horrible defender i dont want him anywhere near our team. I would rather keep watching Fultz and it says a lot....

I am still learning about current NBA players.

It's interesting to note that we are on paper one of the best 4th quarter teams in the NBA. Oh boy do I want to see all the projected +- for all the lineups that we have seen.

We know we have a Mr 4th quarter in Franz.

Also see a lot of Cole Anthony in the 4th.

Lots of things appear to be coming together, I don't know enough about many NBA players other then stat lines. Not sure how much I want change our current chemistry.

We are still not a great team and we have obvious holes. Outside Franz and Paolo only player who could change our chemistry for the worse when dealt is Carter. Also Gary Harris as our only solid vet.

I’d happily spray picks all over rather than bust up our young core. (Which is kind of the point of this thread). Trade threads are full of unrealistic “package all our unwanted crap for a solid guy” proposals. SOME team wants picks for a guy…who can it be?

I’d trade DEN first (maybe up protection to 8 or 10?) to UTA for a couple of tryouts…

Agbaji looked like exactly the good-sized 3&D prospect we would be wanting to draft anyway. I can’t quit NAW
Maybe preferable to trade RJ and the picks for Agbaji to keep our summer cap space intact. Might even be an underpay, given his draft position vs likely DEN pick value. I’d honestly trade CHI 23 for him, given the catastrophic protection or wait for lottery To see where it lands. Agbaji hardly plays but recent articles suggest he unavailable for trades.

Edit* Utah probably doesn’t entertain trading such a recent guy for a fairly equivalent pick value…we probably would have to add second(s) or take back salary …like first version, or…

Agbaji was just drafted in the late lottery. you think Ainge would trade him for some pick in the mid-late 20s?

I have to think Beasley is attainable from Utah. Especially with Agbaji drafted and behind him.

GTJ is overpay and sadly has attitude issues. We should avoid him.
I agree FVV or Suggs are our best options for starting PG next season. Hard to think of something else, which is not forcing things like Lillard, Rozier, Young or Irving (maybe Garland if Mitchell takes over the team?).

Here's a twist on this thread...best young guards who should be available for 2rps and/or guys like Okeke, RJ, Bamba, etc that haven't 'clicked' yet, but still might have some value in a new environment. Personally, I think Okeke will have a long NBA career as a heady defender, bench glue guy and might even be more if his 3pt shooting stabilizes at closer to 40% (but I'm good with moving him for an equal 'not quite a bust' at more of a position of need)...Basically, not trajectory-changing trade targets like FVV or Lavine, etc but 6-10 guys who might just be better fits or have undiscovered value to our team...

One of my favorites in this category...NAW (playing 15mpg on UTA, 6'5 SG/PG, presently hitting 40% on 2.5 3ptas...has had big scoring nights on occasion but never with any consistency. I'd love to trade one of our "hopefuls" for this hopeful and just see if the chemistry is there to elevate his game...would they do Okeke for NAW?

Also from UTA, and he's been mentioned often is Beasley...he is truly a high-volume, high efficiency 3pt shooter with not much else. In his time with MIN and UTA, he's shot over 8 3ptas per game and hit at 39% at that exceptional volume. He has, in the past, averaged 20ppg for a season. He doesn't appear to do anything but shoot, but that's something and, who knows, maybe Mose and FSU guy Isaac can inspire him to add defense to his resume. He could be a rock solid improvement over whoever is our best bench scorer (Anthony) and maybe even form a killer guard duo, along with Anthony. He won't be given away like NAW might - but he also could easily become a worthy starter in ORL...how about Ross, Okeke, and two 2rps? (that feels light to me and probably to Ainge)...Ross, Okeke, and the DEN pick?

Bogdan Bogdanovich - plays 30mpg so maybe not available cheaply, or would ATL like his salary & mpg for younger guys like Griffin?
Moses Moody - comes up often, GSW doesn't seem to want to move him and we don't have win-nows in the same price range. Okeke +?
Clippers have Terrance Mann, Amir Coffey, Brandon Boston...all interesting, Kennard on a different age & price point
SAS has a half dozen young and old wings who can shoot...could Pop turn Bamba around or see the value of Okeke? (broad price ranges)
DAL has Josh Green starting to show up strong, but wouldn't Luka maximize Bamba's high % on trailing 3's and better D than Wood?
DEN is apparently offering Bones Hyland, who plays 20 mpg and is a scorer...could he be more with more opportunity (IDK)
IND seems to be parallel to us and by signing Turner is indicating they're competing...too many young guards...Duarte? Hield?

Why it has to be "young" ? You just pay for age and "Potential" if you buy some 21 years old player who has hot streak. I'll never forget whole Bledsoe hype just because he had few good games and was 20. People were ready to trade 5000 picks for him.

Because you don’t trade top 10 picks for washed dudes in their late 20’s / early 30’s making real money.

Why even make the trade if they have 1 good contract left in them, while Orlando isn’t playoff ready or tested?

I have always liked Corey Kispert's game. Perhaps he can play SG; he was projected as a combo-wing in his draft year even though he is mostly a true SF in the NBA.

Given the Wizards move towards winning, and their horrible PG rotation, perhaps there is a simple deal to be made. Anthony for Kispert straight up?
