Fultz future

Just for the sake of cleansing all of the other Magic boards from this topic, that is leaking into them...

What is Fultz' future? How much better can he get? What is his trade value? What is his next contract - if we keep him?

He's the starter the rest of this season, but he really shouldn't be guaranteed anything beyond that.

That said, he's probably starting next season unless the Magic hit the lottery and land Henderson.

He’s the third star alongside Banchero and Franz if he can get his three-point shooting to a respectable percentage. He can help us win games without three point shooting, so having in the roster helps us. His bad shooting was caused by TOS and then he missed time to his ACL tear, so I expect his shooting to improve now that he’s healthy.

With you on this one! he deserves the chance to get right before "giving up on him". Hope we make philly see a double whammy.... missing on both tatum and fultz. lol

Brother I’m terribly sorry, but he’s pretty right here if “all goes well”. He’s looking amazing and athletic. He finally getting some real consistent burn and barring anymore god awful injuries it looks like he’ll continue to trend upward. His midrange looks good. He’s natural PG talents are getting better as he plays more games and he really has the talent and even the desire I think, to push himself to be a “b-“ level star for us. I like his offensive game now. Suggs and Cole would be a good bench tandem together. We just need a solid long distance shooter that’s on the larger side and who can play some lockdown defense next to him.

We’ve seen him go from physically struggling to shoot from 4+ feet away with the Sixers to now hitting dagger jumpers for us. It all boils down to whether or not you think he can take the same improvement that we’ve seen so far in his career and extrapolate that out to the 3pt line. Personally, I think he’s got more room to grow and we can afford to give him a bit more time to show it. He doesn’t have to be some high volume sniper, just respectable. If he shows improvement with the 3, we’ve got our long term starter. If he shows no improvement w/ the 3, we can factor that in his next (cheaper) contract, should we decide to offer him one. There’s no reason to think he couldn’t play next to a guy like FVV either. A Fultz/FVV pairing is just as dynamic as FVV/Suggs would be and both for different reasons that would be very useful situationally. I envision those pairings succeeding far more than I do a FVV/Harris or Fultz/Harris backcourt. Realize - he’s played the equivalent of like, two seasons of basketball…many of those not even healthy. I’m just not convinced we’ve seen all he’s got.

Now, with all that said - the lottery can change everything.

The takes on both sides about Fultz are mind-bogglingly numbing and lack any nuance, even from posters who usually have good takes on here.

He's solid, leads the team well, has a knack for doing the little things in big moments, steadies the team. Does everything pretty averagely besides shoot three and provide spacing, which is a big, glaring hole for a modern PG.

If keeping him and extending him beyond his contract already will be cap killing, we don't have to commit to him. Not unless he magically starts shooting and making with more volume. If he stays and is relatively cheap, he would be great to have, especially off the bench.

If we acquire a SG that scores and attempts even with more volume than Harris, great. If Franz and Paolo can start to hit threes at higher clips, it puts less pressure on Fultz as well.

So many directions to go, really.

The only way to massively **** it up is to assume Fultz deserves to get a massive contract, we don't look to upgrade at all, and we don't add shooters in the following years. I don't think FO are thinking quite exactly like that.

"He can help us win games without three point shooting.."

Yeah, I'd hope he'd be able to compensate for not being able to shoot 3's as a starting point guard in the NBA. Why else would he be on the floor? For his contract? There are other options elsewhere.

"He's a third star IF he can get his three-point shooting to a respectable percentage".

Yeah, he'd have to take them at all during a game for that to be true, or even matter. You cant be a "star" point guard if you can't run a half court offense or shoot the basketball. That's like saying Trae Young can be a top 10 player if he could play defense. Yeah, no ****.

How long do we give Fultz for injuries and TOS? The end of the season? His next contract? I heard all this same stuff about AG his entire career with Orlando. Just one more season and he's an allstar Paul George. He's just injured. He's just out of position, ect, etc. He is who he is.

Fultz has gotten "consistent burn" all season. The starting lineup somehow does better without him statistically. He's an average point guard with glaring deficiencies. But yeah, he's the third star.

At the end of the day contracts matter. Money matters. Cap space matters. I'm not sure anyone could validate giving him more money than what Welt just gave him, which he will absolutely require.

This is the last thread/ post about Markelle I'll make. I have beaten this dead horse enough this season.

I’m not going to say Markelle is our third star, because I believe if Scoot Henderson becomes available for us in the draft we’ll take him in a nano second. With that said, Fultz is doing everything great and is showing some legit leadership out there, his 3 point shot withstanding, which I believe is a huge reason for the Magics better play the last two months.

If Markelle can bump up those averages to somewhere between 16-18 points and 6-8 assists it’s hard not to resign him if that uptick leads to wins. But where Markelle is excelling right now is the little plays and making them at the right time.

He is this generations version of Chauncey Billups. A player that came in the league with all the potential but took many seasons to become that championship style point guard leader.

Or he will be no better than what he is now but he is steadily showing a solid foundation to be an incredible leader on both sides of the ball. The defense has been stellar.

Fultz has never played a full season.
And he's never averaged more than the 28.7 minutes he's averaging this season.

2017-18 = 14 games
2018-19 = 19 games
2019-20 = first year in Orland at 72 games/27mpg = basically his rookie season
2020-21 = 8 games
2021-22 = 18 games
2022-23 = incomplete but missed a bunch of games

I believe in Fultz.
Pretty sure he's under no pressure to be amazing this year.
If he can finish the year healthy then NEXT year is when he'll be under pressure to become a star.

Even if Markelle was a good 3 point shooter, I still think he'd have haters here.

On the flipside, Scoot can't shoot either and he is seen as a God draft prospect.

I don’t think its that. Both are different.

Fultz CANNOT be a good three point shooter because his shot/stroke/range of motion is broken.

Scoot CAN be a good 3 point shooter because his shot isnt broken.

There is no doubt Fultz is a good player and the best PG among the 3 we have right now, but in today’s game, having a guard that can’t shoot is more of a detriment to the team.

Unless Fultz can bring something elite to the table, there is no reason why we shouldn’t bring him off the bench. We hide his weakness, and he is too good to play against the second stringer of opposing teams.

Lebron has been a poor 3pt shooter his whole career. His team masks him too by surrounding him with shooters and Superstars. You're making a big deal out of something that is neither here or there. It's about proper roster construction.

Fultz will not offer other strengths to the level of LeBron but I'm not making a player comparison example. I'm making a case that we can make up for him and still be a legit contender if we have other pieces around him.

We should be able to especially since he is not a $30M per year player.

If you replace CP3 with Fultz are the Suns no longer a contender with Booker, KD and Ayton?

So are you suggesting we build the team around Fultz?

Also, the suns will still be a contender because they have booker and durant. Do we?

The guy is a good role player for team where his skillset fits. On a good team he would be best coming off the bench.
