Dallas out of Play In. Kyrie Irving?

Post#1 » by MasterGMer » Sat Apr 8, 2023 3:18 am

Now with Dallas's amazing tank job so that they can land a top 10 pick, will Kyrie leave this team?

I know Kyrie hasn't been a winning factor in many places he stayed. But his talent is undeniable. He is an All Star Starter. And he is among the best PGs in today's game.

Magic this offseason could have up to 55M in cap space. I brought up the FVV thread myself also and hinted at it as a possibility.
But between FVV and Kyrie. Heck yeah, this is just a no brainer.

Many of you posters like Pepe kept complaining Fultz is not the right guy. Like he couldn't be the lead guard and he couldn't draw fouls or shoot 3s. But Kyrie can do it all. He could be the alpha dog of this young Orlando Magic team. We are one of the most promising team in the NBA right now. Adding a super star can legitimately make us a playoff contender, even Championship aspirations
Adding Kyrie will just be like when Phoenix added CP3.

Should we throw a bunch of money and pray we land Kyrie? At least we could give it a shot.

What is your opinion?

I can't imagine any scenario where the notoriously risk adverse Weltman and Hammond would opt to pursue a player who has literally flamed out of three (and soon to be four?) winning situations already.

Once is an accident. Twice is a coincidence. Three times? That's a pattern.

With all the cap space we have, we've got to get some body.

I just do not think FVV is the right price and situation.

Why not take a chance on Kyrie? He could easily elevate us into playoff contention

Kyrie Irving *is* a great player. I don't think anyone is suggesting otherwise.

I just don't think this front office would take the risk given the fact Kyrie has quite literally forced his way out of three (and it would be four if he leaves Dallas) situations that could all be described as very good to excellent.

This guy was teammates with LeBron James, Jayson Tatum/Jaylen Brown, Kevin Durant/James Harden and now Luka Doncic and he's gonna end up leaving all four of those situation on bad terms?

It's just not in the cards. Not for this front office.

So who we should target in this Free Agency? FVV? Dillon Brooks? Naz Raid?

To me, I am interested in Austin Reeves. He is RFA and he could be a steal

They don't *have* to target anyone necessarily. They can kick the can down the road for one more summer if they want.

I think they'd have varying amounts of interest in Middleton, VanVleet, Trent Jr, Reeves, LeVert, Hart, Brooks, G. Williams among others.

This isn't what I would do, but I think the most likely scenario is that they let Gary Harris walk and use their cap space to sign someone capable of filling his rotation spot and then just go BPA with their two lotto picks.

Man, Kyrie’s resume is riddled with crushed franchises, but part of me secretly wonders…he’s an MVP level talent and, arguably, precisely the on-court skillset we need. If it was only cash…waive Isaac, Fultz, Harris, Bol to sign him (you’d HAVE to offer a max or the relationship is soured on day 1)…add 2 lotto picks to this team…that would be exciting (and terrifying  )…I’m not endorsing it, but if it happened, I’d be hyped for the ballsy move.

I knew his dad in college, so there’s always a soft spot, but he’s beyond risky. Really, it’s like All-NBA, Exec of the Year, Biggest feel-good story of the year, 32ppg, 10 apg or absolute mayhem…no middle ground with Kyrie.

Yeah, whatever, just do it…lots more intriguing than Reaves-sanity imo

Kyrie, Cole, Mike Miles(2rp)
Suggs, Dick(r)
Franz, Houstan, Okeke
Paolo, Hendricks (r), M. Wagner
WCJ, Goga

Dallas out of Play In. Kyrie Irving?

I’ve gone back and forth but I just don’t think he would be a good example for our young team, at all. I think Dallas has put themselves into a situation where they have to sign in.

I agree but it’s really an awful pairing of two amazing individual talents…I think Cuban will flat out ask Luka what he wants them to do, knowing Kyrie is max offer or ruined relationship, with no middle ground. Even if no one else is bidding, Kyrie must be appeased or he’ll be a huge problem. Sticky…like LA. At least LBJ can’t just point at FO for Westbrook. Need to get Luka heavily invested in the decision.

Tough spot…but some lottery luck could make DAL immediately back in the thick of it. Wemby keep. Scoot, trade for significant frontcourt player(s).

With those two guys Dallas could grab a lot of rebuilding type assets like picks and expiring contracts. Bowing out of the playoffs despite having Kyrie and Doncic is certainly an enormous red flag. In regards to the Magic, I’d stay away from both. Kyrie’s deranged and Luka’s supplanted Lebron as the NBA’s biggest crybaby. Neither have done a thing team wise when they were the lead dogs except put up gawdy numbers.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Why going after Doncic when we need at least 4 or 5 FRPs to get him plus probably Wendell and Franz, when we can get players like Kyrie or FVV for free?

Great player but not for this team.

Kyrie is of one my favourite players of all time, but no. Hard no. Absolutely not what we need at the moment. It'll never happen.

If Kyrie wants to play in Orlando, we will sign him.
