Amid controversy, should Magic explore the trade of Ja Morant?

I know it is a bad day yesterday for Ja. He is suspended again because he was holding a fire arm on video.

I don’t know he was high or not. But it seems like this is his lifestyle

But he is still a super star in this league. If Memphis is sick of repetitive mistakes made by Ja, will they consider trading him?

At least Memphis fans are, they are posting on Reddit about proposed trade scenarios between teams

I am a big believer of second chance. Should Magic offer him that second chance?

If it would cost Franz Wagner and two FRPs, will you do it?

I am disappointed in Ja Morant though. He could easily be the face of the league at a young age and he is waiving his chances. He is not even on All NBA team this year after Memphis being the second team in the West.

“I am fine in the West”

Will you be fine in the East?

Uuuhhhhh how long have you been a fan of our team? You do know who our owners are right? Their types of personnel hires?

I also have another question:

Should we go after Chris Paul? I know CP3 is 38 years old now and his stats are on the decline

But he could be the perfect veteran piece for this young team plus the most important position in the game

I like the idea a lot, even more so than Ja Morant. I like Chris Paul’s leadership skills and we need someone like him in the locker room, don’t you think so?

The question becomes what would the trade package look like?

Gary Harris plus a second round pick?

My personal idea

Counterpoint…this is Florida, where geniuses put “family portraits” of AR-15s in profile on their pickups. Ja is a true patriot expressing his God-given right to flash firearms around in his ve-hicle. Amen, welcome brother Ja.

ANd-1

The only time Ownership took this risk was after Gilbert Areas had his gun thing. That did not work out for Orlando at all.

The only thing that cam from Arenas is some "instructions" to Howard on planking. I could have lived without that fad.

Umm. No it is not legal in Florida to "flash a gun" in a car.

i: Vehicle carry is legal without a license when a handgun is not available for immediate use or on someone's person. Handguns must be either "securely encased" F.S. 790.25(3)(l) or not immediately available for use. "Securely encased" means in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in a holster; in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case; or in a closed box or container which requires a lid or cover to be opened for access. Carry of a Handgun on one's person inside a vehicle without a license is not permitted (except in the case of open carry in accordance with the law outlined above).

Magic tend to look at high character people for the organization. That’s not Ja Morant. If Adam Silver has any spine whatsoever (he doesn’t) he’ll suspend Morant for a full season. That’s the only way to get this nimrods attention.

What's the price: Franz or Paolo and picks plus? Ja is a 23 year old, and acting like one. I am sure the Grizzlies are frustrated, but they are not going to give away a guy like that either.

yeah. i think Memphis bets that Ja gets his head in the right place, stops trying to get "street cred" to keep his millions of dollars. if they trade him and he does, they traded away a superstar. unless someone gave them Wemby or maybe Giannis, i dont see them trading him

Do we need a new thread for every star player in the league that won’t come to Orlando?

Yeah, agreed.

These threads with "should we get so and so superstar" really aren't what we are looking for.

It should be "who is the best player we can get without trading Franz or Paolo (and WCJ for me)?

As you see with PHILLY, Golden St., Mem, MIL, it's taking more than just some All-star or 2.

Boston's team is complete, Def & scoring at all 3 levels (Guards/wings/Front court).
Same with Miami, LAL and DEN

Trading our players and assets for an All-star, while maybe more fun to watch, won't get us further into the playoffs.

So you prefer Ja on this team except Paolo or Franz? We will have to trade one of them to make the salary cap work and I’m guessing they will ask for Paolo.

Are guns allowed in Florida?

Should be a bad decision.

welcome to the board.

we have new threads for players cut from other teams, if we should bring them in.

My initial thought to this thread title was - Absolutely!

But you're right - our owners tend to like a different shape-like type of law avoider. Ja's affinity for guns probably takes him off the list unless he starts selling them on the Amway platform.

These guys aren’t even cut.

These are just trade scenarios that aren’t realistic.

Morant, Giannis, Kyrie, Paul George, etc.

If we could trade for him without giving up Franz or Paolo, I say yes. This might be the lowest his price gets and I dont think what he did is disqualifying, albeit stupid and probably cost him some money. But he is still a top 5-10 level talent. That said, I agree that Grizzlies would demand a pretty big package for him. I could see another team deciding it is worth the risk and out bidding us.
