Pre Draft Pick 4 Guys to keep as core.

Part of this is boredom from draft talk.
I saw this question on a recent Magic fan podcast and was surprised by some of the answers.
Pre-draft who are you keeping as the core moving forward without knowing who the Magic take at #6 and #11 and why?
I left off a few bench guys so the pool wasn’t crazy long.

This should be easy but I'm sure I'll be shocked at the results

Though as for me it is i) F-Wagner, ii) Banchero, iii) Carter, and then iv) Fultz-or-Suggs: pick one. But the other has got to go.
p.s. How do you have Caleb Houston and Chuma Okeke over Bol Bol?

I've got Franz, Paolo, Suggs, and Fultz, but that's just at this very moment - I'd swap any of those two guards with WCJ if we see little/no improvement beginning next season. Reason I have those two over WCJ currently is that while I think he's underrated, he still plays a position that is more easily replaceable. Paolo and Franz as core for obvious reasons. Suggs on the list for defensive prowess but want to see better shooting/IQ develop. Markelle on merit that he once had a #1 pick-worthy shooting, has rediscovered his middy but still needs to find it from 3.

Suggs, Banchero, Franz & WCJ. Those 4 players have the ability to mold a team into just about anything you want going forward with room to grow. Not to mention WCJ is on a solid deal3 years left that he would easily be moved if you need to.

I knew I’d forget someone. If anyone wants to make a case for Bol I’d like to hear it out.

The same reason they only make 5-hour energy drinks and not 6 or 7-hour energy drinks. Because they can.

It's an introspective view on your asset management and tells us a lot what you prefer.

Fun thread idea with all the boredom.
I propose something spicy.
Paulo - easy
Franz - easy
Suggs - should be easy but people might prefer someone else even if they are wrong...
WCJ - this to me is as easy as Paulo / Franz. I really think we as a fanbase undervalue this guy. Yes, he doesn't do anything flashy, doesn't score a lot, doesn't get a ton of rebounds or blocked shots. But he does absolutely everything good. He is an absolute treat and was the perfect intangible replacement to what we had in Vooch.

Agreed on three players. As for Fultz vs Suggs, we fans will disagree between those two so long as both are on the roster. I am on record of wanting Fultz over Suggs. But I also trust management more than I trust "me". So if WeHamm sees something in Suggs, fine.
My problem is that they cannot co-exist as starters. And neither should be a bench player. So: one's gotta go.
p.s. Carter is way, way over the guards for me. He is a keeper. All the "
Carter plus picks for player-X trade ideas" do my head in. Carter ain't gonna be traded.

To me, in the discussion of Fultz vs Suggs. Which is harder to replace.
Well to be fair, when you look at both in totality. Neither are hard to replace. But that says wwaayyy more about Fultz then it does about Suggs IMHO.
Suggs vs Fultz - Suggs be an elite defender when all is said and done. What really disturbs me about Suggs is I have to add my tagline of "he will be", "if he is healthy" mantra.
To an extent, what is Fultz? What is he elite at? Well I put him in the 20-30 in terms of PG starters. But at his peak he might be 15-20, which admittedly is easily attainable. But to expect more of him is well. Not realistic.
The real question is, what will Suggs peak be? Ugh its a question that bugs me. It's why I constantly say "nobody on our Guard roster is technically hard to replace if you look at them last season."
Between Fultz, Suggs, Cole, Harris. The highest upside today is probably Suggs, then Fultz, then Cole although Cole and Fultz are intangibly interchangeable.

I'm glad to read this. I really think we just overlook him because he is just there quietly doing his thing. Meanwhile when Mo has to start when he is injured we all collectively ask ourselves what player on the opposing team is preparing for a career game.

Carter produces well and is probably our third best player but he isn't really exceptional in any one thing and is slightly undersized at C. I think that's why he only commanded $50 million in free agency, because his upside is a bit limited. There are just so many super talented guys who are 6'10" and taller right now Jokic, Embiid, KD, Giannis, Sabonis, Towns, Mobley, Wemby,
He would probably be just about the best backup center in the NBA but as a starter he is good but as good as he is replaceable because he's up against so many stars at his position.
That's why I'm leaving him off my top 4.

kinda surprised to see so many people considering WCjr a core guy
To me, He doesnt do anything above average
He good, i like having him on the team, especially on that deal, but i dont think it would be too tough to replace him

What makes this fun for me is.....
OK, who do you have in mind that is available today that is the same or an upgrade?
Curious.

For me the 4th guy is going to be pick #6.
I am curious what WCJ's trade value is.
