Cole Anthony was the 15th pick and has performed as well as you would hope from a player picked in that range. He's even shown some improvement. However, with an extension eligibility on the horizon, how would you approach his next contract?

Resign him? At what cost? Let him walk and draft a PG next year? Sign someone? Let Suggs take over? Other?

No extension now and let him play next season,see hot it go,next july we will match if we have to.

4 years 60 million. Easy. Sign it tomorrow. He is going to be a premier 6th man and fill in starter for years to come.

It’s strange, I’ve been happy with Cole’s adjustment and performance off the bench and I’d be happy to let him play out next season to see how his growth continues. But I also see him as the most expendable piece in the backcourt, so if we want to give PG touches to a rookie or Suggs then Cole is likely the guy I move to make room.

But I just checked his splits out of curiosity. I feel like he didn’t get enough acknowledgment for how strong his March and April performances were. Certainly not from me. In 18 games he averaged 28mpg and:

16ppg, 5.5rpg, 3.6apg shooting TS 61%, 42% 3fg% going 30/71 or 1.7/3.9 per game, 90% ft% on 2.9ftas per game.

If he continues those numbers off the bench then that’s some pretty strong 6th man stuff.

No way he signs for anything under 15 million per.

Same as I don't really heavily weigh the wins we got during that span.

I would wait until FA. We need to see who we draft first, and I want to see how he performs this season. Can he sustain that 3pt % improvement?

I don't think we played an actual tanking team (versus us, I mean) the entire month besides one of the Wiz games. Spurs took it to us, Charlotte competed, rest were pretty good teams.

Also I feel like the net is getting wider for "games that don't matter", it used to go from the last week of games, now the last two months, next it's gonna be "I don't value games after Jan 1st"

I'm upping the 'he's gone' odds to 90/10.

Yeah but you don't truly see those IDGAF levels until the last 1-2 weeks usually (Pacers/Blazers/Magic/Wiz) and then like throughout the year, the naturally bad young teams compete but just don't have enough firepower.

Last year felt pretty competitive for most teams in terms of parity. A handful of naturally bad teams but if you look back to around the bubble time/before that.. it was bad. I think we were the 5th seed with 25 wins and not 35 because every team was trying to lose

Nah, there were definitely plenty of competitive games in March. Teams were playing for seeding and play-in spots still, only the true tankers like Spurs, Portland and Detroit were rolling out G League lineups in March.

We were fighting for a play-in spot up until the final 3 games. Our guys were fighting and beating better teams down the stretch. That’s what makes those wins count to me.

Only an extension if it comes at a discount...not even sure that would look like (10-12ish?). Otherwise just play it out and if we want to match a deal we can, or if a contender wants to over pay him, then we can do a sign and trade to get him under the cap for them.

Slow Mo to Orlando. Think he would be a seamless fit in the rotation depending on the draft, and shouldn't cost much

Don't know thaat Utah is going to move Agbaji so quickly, but i like him.

It's amazing what moving your two best players in exchange for picks and salary dump will do for your record

Devante Graham's extension was always my comparison for Cole, Cole just might not get it from us.

For the record I voted "Nothing, let him go and draft or sign a replacement."

I've always been a Cole Anthony believer. I think he became a good basketball player last year. I think $13-$15 mill/year makes a lot of sense.

I wasn't much of a fan after his rookie season but he impressed me this year. Seems to have matured a bit too.

I would try to sign him at 12-13 per which is unlikely. If he doesn't accept, he'll be a restricted FA next summer and we can match whatever he's worth on the open market.
