Looks like Hammond is moving into semi-retirement, while the Magic promote a sought-after young(ish) exec to keep him on board. I don't think I've ever heard an interview with Anthony Parker as a front office member, but I've heard and read good things.

Doubt it'll make a huge difference on how things are going, at least in the short term.

Yes, Weltman is still the ultimate decision-maker, but now a different mind has no one in between his and the top.

I like that Parker has been with us for so long, especially since it sounds like he could've left.

Anthony Parker is a great story.

Back in 1999, The Magic acquired him as part of the many transactions they made that summer.

They were going to waive him but assistants Tom Sterner and Eric Mussleman convinced the team not too based on his Summer League performance that year.

Parker ended up spending half a season in Orlando before being waived. He did get back to The NBA though.

With The Lakeland (now-Osceola) Magic, they won a G-League Title.

So, this was much deserved for Anthony Parker.

John Hammond is simply stepping back as he winds down a solid career.

Back when he was with the Raptors, I went to one of those events where the players are servers. Anthony Parker was the server for our table.

Really smart, nice, down to earth guy. Sat next to me and my friend, cracking jokes and just being a good human.

Not sure how that will translate to his job but at least he's a good person.
