I still don’t get how it works in context to an 82 game season. Like where are the extra games going to come from for the tea,s that get eliminated after the group play?

I thought only the finals had an extra game?

Yeah and that one oddly doesn’t count towards the regular season. But if the teams that advance past the group round play extra games that count towards the 82 game season, how do the teams that get eliminated early catch up to same number of games played?

I don't know the exact rules go but my interpretation of it was that of the scheduled games that already existed, specific ones count towards the in-game tournament .. which means like 3/4 games vs Boston or 3/4 against Brooklyn but a team that got eliminated early only has a maybe 2 of the games count so it's not like they have to catch up since it's all regular season anyway

One thing that stands out is that the West is stacked.

Last game doesn't count because it will be in Las Vegas, neutral site. So that means that teams advancing only play a max of 2 extra regular season games which is not a big deal. Or maybe once eliminated from group play they continue the regular season as normal while the tournament takes place, dint think the league will do that as they want the full focus on the tournament though.

Where I am scratching my head is that teams only play 4 games in a month and only 2 days of basketball each week during the month if I understood correctly. That is not enough basketball. Lol

I feel like the winner should get home court advantage for the first 2 rounds of the playoffs.

It would especially motivate teams fighting to get in the playoffs & teams that are expected to be top teams would have to compete also because they dont wanna end up in a matchup in the first 2 rounds where they dont have home court.

No, those days (Tuesdays and Fridays) are for group plays. They will continue playing more games that week in order to fit all the 82 required games for the season.

I don’t really get the point of this at all. It’s just another stupid idea of Adam Silver. All Star Weekend is a huge mess due to him and now this. The NBA needs to go back to what worked during Sterns reign.

People need to take off the rosy glasses for Stern. He gets credited for stuff he didn't even do. Tough on guns/abuse? Guys like Metta/Stephen Jackson shooting guns and getting like 7 days suspensions.

Players not playing hard on all star games? Silver's fault I'm sure. Dunk contest being boring? I'm sure it's not because 90% of the dunks have been done already.

Play-ins were a nice touch imo, less teams have straight up tanked. This will be hit or miss but it's not different from a FA cup in soccer.

Eh, I'm willing to wait and see. It could be fun to have a mini tourney. Not sure what the rewards are at this point. I'll read up on it when it gets closer I guess.

It’s basically the regular season (only 80 games scheduled to start) with specific games designated as ‘tournament games’ sprinkled within other games. If you don’t make the cut, you get 2 games added to your season after you’re disqualified. There’s more to it but that’s basically it.

Games for Celtics, Nets, Raptors, Bulls by the Magic: I like Orlando to have a chance to come in 2nd and could come third in the group. Or fifth.

I like Orlando's chances of getting out of group play...We'll see how the Celtics look with KP and see how contenders teams divvy up minutes with the extra load.

Seems like a tournament like this might favor younger, healthy teams. Not sure if Orlando meets both of those qualifiers, but here's to hoping.
Guess it could also favor those teams that were good last year since it is so close to the beginning of the season.

One thing is for certain, I don't see us being a Pot 5 team 2025.

• Pot 1: The teams with the three best prior-season records in a conference.
• Pot 2: The teams with the fourth- through sixth-best prior-season records.
• Pot 3: The teams with the seventh- through ninth-best prior-season records.
• Pot 4: The teams with the 10th-through 12th-best prior-season records.
• Pot 5: The teams with the 13th-through 15th-best prior-season records.

Pot 1: Philadelphia 76ers; Milwaukee Bucks; Boston Celtics
Pot 2: Cleveland Cavaliers; New York Knicks; Brooklyn Nets
Pot 3: Atlanta Hawks; Miami Heat; Toronto Raptors
Pot 4: Indiana Pacers; Washington Wizards; Chicago Bulls
Pot 5: Detroit Pistons; Charlotte Hornets; Orlando Magic
