Is it cheaper here to host than Vegas?

It has anything to do with Disney being near broke at this point and grasping for anything?

Disney is one of America's foremost mega conglomerates. They are anything but "near broke."

That's not Disney. Just some random old guy with lots of money to waste.

Disney's stock prise is on nosedive. Iger himself didn't hide from potential partial selling, and he in past already talked about idea of merging with Apple.

This seems to be case of bleeding money, unsustainable expenses & declining ability to turn profit.

In times when they are burning money on properties, especially movie properties they bought ( Pixar, Lucastfilms etc) that not only don't cover own expenses, but also bleed money ( Indy Jones on pace to be one of biggest box office bombs ever).
And on top of all that, they fired 7000 stuff and Hollywood is under strike.
Oh and ESPN,owned by Disney, also just fired 20 on air- people as part of cost saving.

Disney's stock is forecasted to be almost triple in the next 12 years. I know it used to be limited to mostly employees who could purchase it.
Covid obviously hurt them in 2020, but the theme parks are breaking records now. I'm sure they'll hit on more movies in the future. If they don't, the brands they've already made will continue to rake in revenue.

Did you notice that all of those charts show their income taking a nosedive in the year 2020? Yeah, that's not a coincidence. And they made all their big purchases before that. It's a matter of recovering from the pandemic more than anything. It hurt their tourist-based business sectors considerably. As for the studios, movies flop. It happens. They will bounce back, especially with all the big IP they own.

Disney isnt the reason Hollywood is under strike. streaming is one of the biggest reasons and AI another
and while Disney did fire some people, they also are spending giant money on Stephen Smith and just brought in Pat McAfee for $85 million. stupid move in my opinion. they let go of a lot of experts in multiple fields to get a guy that jumps into rivers on college game day and is friends with Aaron Rodgers.

I hope you realize most of forcast predictions are BS, if they could predict stock , nobody would ever lose money, nor we would ever have any economic crises. And that's the whole point, forecasts are almost always "positive" because in any other scenario it means company is collapsing, or even worst, economy is collapsing and by default, forecasters job is ***ed. The Efficient Markets Hypothesis states that new information about securities is immediately reflected in stock prices. Therefore, a price change results from new information, which is impossible to predict. That's why talking about stock in 12 years is dumb and silly. It's equivivalent of predicting president of any country 12 years from now. Your candidate might be dead by that point.
Parks don't bring money movies do.
They have 3 biggest investments in movie department: Pixar, Marvel, Lucastfilms.
Pixar didn't produce anything close to profitable since covid days.
Lucastfilms menaged to alianate all products from fanbases.
Marvel- deminishing returns post Endgame, people got tired of neverending saga & bloated product
Revenue in movies isn't as it was in past. In past you could sell movie to tv, nowdays nobody watches tv and tv houses tend to just use own products and it's very rare to find Disney movie on HBO etc.
So most of movies end up on Disney +.
And Disney + is bleeding money left and right.
Netflix concept only really worked for them, for all others it was beginning of the endgame of modern Hollywood.

Yep you are right - it's a dude that owned a bunch of Pizza Huts with a couple billion $ to blow.

Must've seen something about a number of former Disney Imagineers and park designers getting involved and thought that it was a Disney project - thanks for the clarification!

Re: NBA G-League Showcase Moving from Vegas to Orlando
In regards to Disney, I do think there's a significant difference between "we projected we'd generate 70B in revenue and we only generated 60B and now stockholders are furious" and "we're about to go completely bankrupt and no longer exist"
The value of stock decreasing and shareholders being negatively impacted is a whole lot different from actually closing movie studios, shutting down theme parks, de-comissioning cruise lines, etc.

Well Disney is one of the biggest movie monopolies out there,so they are one of reasons why Hollywood is under strike ( doesn't help fact that Iger yapping BS while being payed $27 M a year).
In past if you worked on , i don't know, Friends, every time that tv show was brodcasted anywhere, you would get, no matter are you writer, director, cemera crew member, audio person or actor, portion of money off it, residual check.
Now, with streaming services, nobody gets anything, because all streaming services hide what they earn and tend to lie about everything (but that's story for another day....).
War rooms of writers used to make 12-15 people, even 20, now it's 5-6 people. Writers used to work for several months. Now several weeks. Writers used to be on set and were present in moment of filming and could re-write things & dialog, now writers aren't allowed on set ( not that they aren't allowed, they simply don't go there) and scripts are written months before movie is being filmed.
One of She Hulk writers ( Disney + orginal show) said she made 396 dollars per episode

And even between actors, Orange is new Black actors on Netflix, had massive audience, but since it was on streaming service, they were paying fairly little for massive sucess, opposite of - on tv air- Game of Thrones actors were making $500 K per episode ( actress Kimko Glenn revealed several weeks ago she was making $35K per episodes on Orange ).
person who made Squid games literally said he made almost no money off it, despite fact show probably gained Netflix near 1B of money. Why ? Well, netflix.
“According to the report, residuals are typically negotiated through the Korea Television and Radio Writers Association, but Netflix has no agreement with the group. Instead, writers typically receive their money up front, with rates starting at around $30,000 and going as high as $150,000. Shows can take between two to three years to create, but writers receive no more money in that time.”
It's not hard to understand that streaming service is killing Hollywood

yes, as i said, streaming is one of the biggest reasons for the strike as well as AI. Disney is a player, but just one of the players.

Disney is certainly not broke, they are nothing close, they are making fantastic profits. Its just that is unrealistic for the increases in revenue and profitably that they've had for years to continue into perpetuity and that somehow was framed as "oh oh Disney is broke".
