The case of Michael Jordan’s stolen jersey in Orlando February 14th 1990

The greatest theft in Orlando Magic history lol. For those
( if any ) that aren’t familiar with this story I suggest reading up on it, pretty entertaining. Anyway MJ’s jersey was stolen from the locker room sometime after shoot around and prior to the game. It was a big mess as the Bulls were coming to the end of a long road trip and only had one set of jerseys with them and no backups. The Bulls tried to find a fan in the stands wearing a red Bull’s jersey that would fit Jordan but couldn’t find one at all leading to him having to wear a nameless number 12 jersey. Jordan actually appears on a Sam Vincent basketball card in that game wearing the #12 jersey. The jersey was found days later in the ceiling and as the story goes it was stolen by a Magic employee in security whose name was never revealed. Allegedly the jersey was mailed back to the Chicago Bull’s BUT they claim to never have received it.

The jersey is still floating around out there somewhere and someone has one of the coolest pieces of MJ memorabilia possibly ever. There are some old heads in here and I’m curious if anyone has anything to add to this story or the details. Whoever took it allegedly went unnamed but someone has to know who it is and where the jersey is today.

I have nothing of value to add other than I remember watching that game and completely confused when Porter announced that Jordan would be wearing #12. We won btw. Catledge and Skiles played well. Jordan destroyed us.

I believe he had like 49 points or near that and the game went to overtime and the Magic won. Mike was pissed and said he’d never wear #12 again lol. I can only imagine whoever has that jersey has probably close to a 1 million dollar piece of memorabilia IMOP.

The Catman had a great game in this win. He Dominated Horace Grant!
Otis Smith also had one of his finest games outplaying Pippen.

It's a fascinating boxscore, as Reggie Theus taking more FTs than Jordan is one of the NBA oddities of all time!

I brought this story up because a few months ago I was in a card shop and was opening packs of 1990 NBA Hoops and I pulled the Sam Vincent card with MJ wearing the 12 jersey. I was talking to the shop owner about it telling him how cool it was and that’s when another customer spoke up and told us about one of his friends that has a friend that supposedly has the jersey. Stuff checks out kinda sense the jersey never made it back to Chicago.

It would be such a cool piece of MU history to have. The legality of having it would be the issue. Not sure if there would be a statue of limitation’s on it as basically it’s stolen property. It has such a cool story to go along with it along with it being the only jersey MJ had on that road trip wearing in games against Rockets, Spurs, Lakers, Nuggets, Heat, and Magic. MJ touched on this in The Last Dance and you can tell it still ticks him off today lol.
