Howard vs. Houstan
Seems like if Harris misses time we might see one of these guys crack the rotation. Obviously could be Black. But just for the topics sake.. Who do you prefer and who do you think the Magic prefer?
I think Howard shows a lot more upside plus he was a higher pick BUT Houstan was a top HS prospect, the Magic seem to like him and he has a few years under his belt of legit playing time already.
Long term I am Jett and even now I probably lean Jett but if Caleb gives them a better chance to win right now I wouldn't be shocked if they choose him. Thoughts?

Honestly, one should take Gary’s minutes and the other Ingle’s. I want them to play.

Depends. We need a SG? We take Jett. We need a SF to spot up 3? We take Houstan.

Re: Howard vs. Houstan
I'll say this - I've never watched a Caleb Houstan stint and been disappointed. He comes in, hits open shots, and rarely make mistakes. He's not going to light it up, but he plays his role well. Don't ask me about what his numbers or stats say. I've never looked them up. That's just always my impression every time I've seen him get limited minutes. Whether they're meaningful, garbage minutes, or even Summer League.

yep he hustles and plays hard. He just needs to continue to improve as a shooter IMO

I agree. I do like what I see but I have this weird feeling Jett is going to be our future starting SG.
Regardless with way things are looking with injuries and Ingles being awful - we may get to see both of them sooner than we thought.

Re: Howard vs. Houstan
Houston gets my vote as first in because of his experience and lightning quick release. It's time to see if the kid has a chance of being something more than an end of the bench NBA player. Jett's got the pedigree and a rather quick release himself, but I just think Caleb's defense is way more solid than a baby Jett Howard. Either way this team needs the shooting they both bring.
All of that being said, I'm already done with the Joe Ingles experience and his minutes should be split between the two until one emerges as the current best option. I believe we'll have some type of consolidation trade before the deadline that will open up minutes even further, especially if we're not overperforming by then as a team, so I'm not too worried about it. With Wendell being out for so long I'm not quite as optimistic as I was a couple of days ago. Side note: I really hope to see JI get some time at the 5. I'm curious if his length, speed, and instincts can make up for his strength disadvantages against the bruisers at C.

Re: Howard vs. Houstan
Howard is a lot better especially since front office is looking at guys who can playmake. Caleb is more of a hustle 3 and D guy, its not bad, but can be better.
The only advantage Caleb has is one year of experience, but even then, his experience is limited.

Howard is more creative, better playmaker, midrange scorer. I would bet on him especiall that we passed on some good players to take him.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Re: Howard vs. Houstan
I have nothing to evaluate Jett with. He played 9 min in nba regular season.
I didn't like a pick ( wasn't considered even top 15 pick ) , but that doesn't matter.
But they are kind a similar anyway, unathletic SFs who in theory can make open shots ( and not much else).
I don't see any of them making rotation any time soon, so i guess it's pointless debate? Probably going with Howard, if anything, investment in him is much higher

Re: Howard vs. Houstan
Houstan is likely a better player right now, but Howard needs to get some minutes in. If I have to pick, I'd give Houstan minutes for now and bring in Howard more as the season goes on.

Re: Howard vs. Houstan
Play them both...big wings that can (in theory) rain 3's from the perimeter while Paolo & Franz attack the post. If we only had a real rim-running/rim protecting C, this could really pop.

Re: Howard vs. Houstan
I lean Howard due to upside. Houstan's upside is role player, Howard's is all-star.

Re: Howard vs. Houstan
Howard can do more because he is a much superior ball handler.
