Goga => Jarrett Allen??

Post#1 » by AaronB » Thu Nov 16, 2023 8:23 pm

Goga is a lot better player than I expected.

Not perfect and still pretty rough around the edges.

I like his screens, I like his toughness, I like how he defends the rim.

He will get minutes when WCJ returns depending on the opponent.

I think Goga could fit into a tier of C’s who are the type that don’t get a lot of attention but they are just sturdy and reliable. That Nurkic/Adams kind of level. I feel like we’ve got Gortat level depth at the C spot again.

I hope we keep him around, bigs usually hit their prime a bit later... He's a first rounder, and seems to be a hardhat type of player.... Plays his role, no complaints and plays hard.... I like goga quite a bit

He could improve his ball handling / dribbling when he has hand off passes on the top of the key. He is susceptible to fast trapping. If he could get that one or two dribble move to set up a Pick and role, he would be a much improved offensive threat.

Coach is gonna have a big question when Carter comes back healthy though.

He's good and he's got a cool name. What more can you ask for?

Loved that we signed him, he was an underrated midseason acquisition last year. He is pretty solid, even when he was in Indiana. He just didnt get playing time versus veterans like Sabonis and Turner playing ahead of him.

He just lacked playing time and a little slow footed. But he plays well and adds another dimension to our team - a banger and a shot blocker.

I haven't been this excited by the meme-ability of a Magic Center since the Polish Hammer.

It all started on the media of his draft:

One thing about Goga is he's got growing potential to enter Gortat territory in terms of residence in my heart.

I’m digging Goga as well. I liked what he did for us last year and am glad he was brought back. He looks a lot like Nik Vucevic but with a name as cool as Gortat. While is not as talented as Marcin was, he’s a good solid reserve big and I hope he sticks around a while.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I like him

With that being said, I'll bet money his DNPs start racking up when WCJ returns

The Polish Hammer physically would not allow that. No man may ever roam his territory, whether it's land or your heart :D

I helped someone at work named "Marcin" from Poland today and resisted the urge to tell him that Gortat was my favorite Polish player.
I needed to stay professional.

I do love me some Gortat as a player though!

I like Goga. He is always solid with his presence in the paint and defense. Especially tonight watching his block against Vuc, which reminds me an end of Vuc era. lol. We HAVE GOGA!

He needs to figure out how to defend without fouling. His fouling is limiting his minutes on the floor. But he is real solid!

Gaga with 3 steals short of a 5 x 5.

Has been done 22 times since 1976, mostly by Hakeem.

The bounce pass to Paolo cutting to the bucket and the fake delay pass to Harris cutting to the bucket were absolutely things of beauty.

When you have guys that can do that, it encourages guys to cut even harder.

Goga was one of my guys in the 2019 draft, before the Magic went offscript. Not sure why the Pacers drafted him when they already had Myles Turner. Kind of reminds me of drafting Bamba with Vuc.

Also I think the Pacers thought Goga was a floor spacer as he was taking(and missing) 4-5 3s per 36 there, maybe they were disappointed. He has always been good defenisively..

Not sure he is athletic as Allen, but I could see him putting up a similar line given the opportunity/minutes...still confused at how he only got a third string big contract

Goga shot 73% from the line his first couple years...so the touch seems like it might be there, he probably had a good % before last night.

15 games and ~300 MP into the season for him I think we can start seeing some trends

101.6 DRTG (4th for players >100MP)
3.7 DBPM (2nd for players >100 MP)
7 BLK% (8th for >100 MP)
3.7 BLK/100 (9th)
2.3 STL% (6th among Centers)

5.9 STOCKS/100 possessions is higher than Gobert, Mobley, AD, Turner, Chet. I think only Brook Lopez, JI, and Wemby would be higher right now.

4.2 AST/100 to 1.5 TOV/100 for a 2.9 AST to TO ratio has been great too

Im not sure if Mosley is going to take away his minutes after playing like this

Return to Orlando Magic
