Fultz Prediction

Post#1 » by mattdelray1220 » Tue Jan 9, 2024 1:36 pm

Obviously this is a knee jerk reaction but here is what I think is going to happen with Kelle.

I think he will be benched after the all-star break (even if healthy).

He will not be traded but actually re-signed. Something like 3 years 12mil.

Kelle will be our 3rd PG/Mentor for AB. He may play garbage time with injuries but for the most part he will be a veteran leader.

This Magic organization is a family and I believe Kelle is part of that family. No other team is going to pay him. He is comfortable here and I think the Magic are comfortable with him being around and helping out.

He will be signed to a 1 year minimum contract by some team and out of league in two years.

If you want Markelle to play the role of mentor.....I am not mad at that. We have an injury list for a reason.

Not sure what league minimum is either. I would propose in your idea if he is kept around as a bench ringer that that is the reason? I want to say there might be other guys available to fullfill that role and still play spot minutes on occasion. But I am not as good as roster construction as I was in the 00 years.

1)Traded in the next few weeks- as expiring salary packaged with WCJ or picks. WCJ playing as much as Isaac might kill that plan.
realistic eg: Fultz and Den pick to WAS for Tyus Jones

2) Could even be traded in a salary dump to a team that never intends to play him...we maybe get a couple of srps for the cap rental (I don't love Plan B because it implies we don't have a higher intended use for the cap space.
realistic eg: Fultz to CHI for Lonzo Ball and srps - (btw if Ball gets healthy :o ). CHI goes into summer with some flexibility.

3) If not, play out the season - on and off the injured list. Finally, after discussion with FO, sitting out the end of the season on the IR list, before contract expires this summer. Some team will take a run at him. I'll guess WAS or BRK on a prove-it deal...and he may have a long career-if his medical issues subside again. That hitch in his shot is not imaginary.

This team needs an adequate PG. Meaning Fultz as a 4th string? I don't see it. Black is not ready to start on a playoff team. Cole is clearly a sixth man. We need to bring someone else in.

He walks this offseason and signs vet min elsewhere.

Would rather have a vet with playoff experience and a resume as a backup pg off the bench than Fultz. Orlando needs a starting point guard until Black comes in year 3-4.

Let's hope not TJ. TJ could not guard a fire hydrant.

He should probably sit out until his TOS is under control, sucks but it looks like it will never fix for him.

He looks like he's a couple of weeks away from being a couple of weeks away from being in shape.

I wish him nothing but best and hope he resolves or reduces the issues that are bothering him, enjoying the life after basketball. We will probably look into trades or FA for a short/medium term solution at PG, someone that can shoot, run PnR and hopefully defend well enough too. I am still hopeful that Black future improvement can get that starting position somewhere in 2 years.

this is absolute craziness...this org is NOT a family. This is a professional sports team with a limited number of roster spots and a salary cap that is funded by success. Maybe Bo Outlaw is family. Let's get Markelle on the coaching staff with Ingles and off the cap, in that case.

"Family" is blood and trusted friends :banghead: ...it's also what corporate types like to sell to generate blind unremitted loyalty in lieu of raises. It's a hollow term thrown around way too loosely. Weren't Bamba and JJ and TRoss and Ben Wallace and Evan family before they got bounced?

Fultz is 25 and has almost zero playoff experience, if mentorship is what we want there are plenty of better options for a vet minimum.

Plus I really doubt our management would want the distraction which would inevitably happen when he starts racking up DNP-CD and the fans who still think of him as a number one pick with an All-Star potential start to complain.

Lol, don’t stress, I don’t think the Magic family is completely irrational. But I think the way they operate is that when they sign or draft a guy they promise to give him a proper chance and support for the duration of his contract unless he wants to go elsewhere like RJ or Bol. It’s paying dividends with guys like Moe, Suggs and Houstan, not so much with Bama, Fultz and Isaac.

Most of all, I think the way the FO are conducting business is likely to attract more quality basketball people like Ingles to the team. And to add guys like that we need room for them, so it’s inevitable for Fultz.

My wagon is hitched to Fultz, but he may be taking me with him off a steep cliff

Being hurt all the time is just not gonna help his case. I would still prefer to have him on the team if the cost is right. Something similiar to WCj. He's still our best distributor and ball handler... and he's pretty clutch.

haha I agree with you. I was just saying what I think they may do. It feels different than Bamba JJ Ross Evan etc.. It feels like Fultz is gonna be around awhile even if he cannot play. I may be wrong. Nobody else is going to want to take a flyer at this point. I think it's bad.

Yes...it is a sadder situation. Bamba was lazy. The others just were moved out after significant contributions during transitions, etc...Fultz is messed up. I'd move him out anyway because at his (real, not imaginary) best - he's not a good fit...but it is sad to see a former #1's career hit so many physical/mental, whatever the cause, hurdles is tough. Same with Isaac - he's a hard worker, etc but...bummer. Gotta go if his body doesn't keep up.

Either he is traded or not resigned. He serves no purpose here.
