Is Suggs our PG?

A lot of problems would easily be solved if we just moved our future All-defense leader to the PG spot. I see a lot of people casually refer to this "solution" when they discuss trading for scoring and/or defensive aces like Mikal Bridges or OG Anunoby (neither is available, but...). Have we really thought this through? If it's possible, it's easier to find a scoring ace than a scoring ace that also can run an offense, initiate PnR and, generally make life easier for Paolo and Franz. How do you see it?

He has issues with getting too excited and too amped up right now.

Jalen's main problem is his body moves 100x faster than his mind. He needs to reverse that and that comes with time and a good mental skills coach.

I do not believe he has the ball handling ability or the natural pace and tempo to be a full time on the ball point guard in the traditional sense.

He's very frenetic - in both a good and bad way.

No.

And he doesn’t need to be.

no not right now, but MAYBE one day if Suggs, Paolo and Franz all collectively improve their ball-handling and playmaking significantly.

Why does he need to be? He’s more than just a guy without the ability to run point. He is an above average shooter that plays elite defense against positions 1-3.

Everyone should just be grateful that Suggs is 6'5" and not 6'2".. He has mental hurdles to clear and he will but it's going to take a lot of mental training. But then again that's why teams have mental skills coaches though.

We need more offense from our backcourt and Cole needs more minutes. 16-20 minutes per isn't going to cut it; 30+ only.

It's not really about Suggs, it's about your belief in Paolo and Franz to take on the roles of what a PG would fill otherwise. If you think they can, Suggs can be our PG and whoever else can be our SG or vice-versa. If you think they can't, Suggs is not our PG and we need to get one because Fultz is beyond injured.

Agreed. I think he still has a lot to learn. so i'm still hopeful. between the 3 of them i think there will eventually be enough playmaking. but as of now there is no consistency between the 3 on a nightly basis. Solid defense on each of their positions will result in stagnant nights.... liiiiiike last night.

No, but you put words in my mouth. I definitely don't wish he was.

Not really. First of all, I am not a big fan of traditional PG starting for the Magic. And I know I know Suggs is not that. But he is not heavy load modern PG either. He has limited ball skills and he doesn’t run pick and roll for us. He is not a great on ball attacker. He can not create isolation when needed. That is all about nowadays PG. And no, Suggs is not that.

Different Head Coaches probably have different definition of Point Guard in their system.

Suggs can take the duty at 1, but no, he is not going to be a PG, at least not now

This is so unfair.

The fact that Cole is ranked way ahead of Suggs tells me this list is trash. I have no idea how/what they're measuring but it's laughable.

19% of his minutes this year are at the point.

Here's the funny thing... that's a global rating... not a 'how good are you at pg' rating.... meaning Cole is ranked as a way better overall player than Suggs

Nop.

Does not know how to pace himself, only has 1 gear- full foce- go.
Loose ballhandling skills, not well composed.

Best used as catch& shoot option. Shoots just 33% for 3 in situations where he puts ball on the floor first.

He found his spot at SG, let him be that. We tried him as PG for two years, it was disaster.
