Pick your UFA target(s)...

Post#1 » by Skybox » Sat Feb 10, 2024 3:37 pm

there are trade possibilities that may present when one team or another disappoints in the playoffs or, for whatever reason, someone decides they want out or a team decides to make changes, etc.

All that notwithstanding, if Weltman does nothing (pause-resist urge to...) other than go shopping with FA money he MUST spend to get to the salary floor (or right up to the cap?), who are you chasing and is there a plausible reason for them to leave where they are to come to ORL?

My top guys (for now):

Claxton
Monk - not really that excited but best available...prefer trade route for this
GTJ - still hoping he's got more in the tank defensively. He's younger than we assume

Dark Horses:
Quickley - some talk about his fit with Barnes? TOR should keep him, but maybe ORL sees more in him and pays more than TOR would...would likely manifest into a SnT, but not inconceivable.

Gordon Hayward - shows good health for the rest of the year and becomes a viable FA. OKC might choose not to bet on him, especially after pulling off another picks for player deal on draft night. Hayward, if healthy and on a team-friendly final deal, could play a significant role on a young team lacking offensive creation and shooting. He does it all and supposedly, doesn't make bad decisions. More of an Ingles upgrade/addition than a big-time acquisition.

Kyle Anderson - MIN is facing some big financial realities after overpaying for their top 4 guys. They may have to make some sacrifices with secondary vets like Slo -Mo. He's another heady, crafty, versatile forward that just does whatever is needed to win. MIN is COLD.

Honestly who gives a ****.

Just go play 2k and live out your fantasies that this FO does anything of consequence.

No offense Skybox.

I've thought a lot about this (no s**t  way too much)...I wonder what form my fandom would take if I was watching an active aggressive exciting FO rather than this sloth on quaaludes?

I spend all of my time creating imaginary moves - certainly not realistic predictions of what they'll do. If it was Riley or Presti or Masai, would I just watch and cheer like a fanboy? Maybe this is actually a match made in heaven- overactive RealGM'er and sleepy FO.

Clearly...I'm sure many of us were born well before the franchise, are transplants to the area, or (quite a few) foreign fans...so we can claim "fan free agency" but we stick around.

I lived in BOS, bought obstructed view seats to watch Larry & co as my first NBA experience, so I was spoiled. Now, I'm paying for it...

Personally, I’d love to see a 1+1 deal offered to Conley and let go of Harris. I think Conley provides more veteran leadership, similar to what he is providing to the Wolves now.

But Gary Trent might be who we will look at, imo.

Monk is ok, but I think character issues and doesn’t really fit the archetype of players weham has targetted lately. Undersized decision makers doesn’t seem to be a thing for this management. 6’4” and above two-way players seem to be their M. O. lately.

Looking at their historical acquisition, it seems like only Cole doesn’t have the positional size advantage.

Claxton is an interesting choice as well, but it might cost us a sum of money. With WCJ on a cheap contract, plus Moe off the bench, I’m not sure how we can find playing time for claxton for the salary he will likely get.

I think JI is retained, and Fultz will likely be let go. This is based on how Mosley brought out the death lineup lately. I don’t think there will be room for Fultz anymore.

I’m going to focus on the remaining games and the team we have now. We are growing and making great progress. I enjoy the journey we are on. Seeing Paolo, Franz, and Suggs making good progress this season.

It’s enjoyable getting to see JI on the floor.

These are my picks. Conley is perfect for us and what we need from that role in the short term. I like Monk as a reliable scoring punch off the bench if he’s happy to stay a 6th man.

Suggs/Monk
Conley/Black

That’s a quality backcourt that still has opportunities for our young guys.

Resign Fultz and Harris, obviously. We’re a family.

Unless we think there is a player who is a finishing piece to build a contender, don't make any long-term overpays. GTJ would be an upgrade over Harris. I'm expecting AB to replace Fultz but Tyus would still be a really good addition for us. I'm hoping Jett becomes good enough overall to be the shooter off the bench.

What about Malik Monk? Monk is a good 3 pt shooter and averaging about 15 ppg. Remember the game he played against Magic? He was on fire. He will be an UFA this summer and I really want him

Magic should go after Monk and Garry Trent. Guards that are shooters is our biggest need easily.

Give me Conley and Monk. Hopefully Black can get minutes when Conley is out.
