Draft games...cap space to move up?

Having a ton of cap space has lots of value...and not just for signing away free agents, which generally requires an overpay. (*Monk could be the exception due to SAC's inability to keep him at market value or even SnT).
Is there a player in the draft that you are really intrigued with that we could trade up for? What I'm thinking for this thread is "Find a guy that really intrigues you and find a team with a player they would offload to us and reward us with a swap for #18"...if you need to sweeten it a bit with DEN 25 or srps, say so. There may not be any potentially attainable players that we find really intriguing and there might not be any teams, in the right draft range, that would play ball...I haven't looked yet -maybe this is the most lockable dead-end thread ever

Here's an idea...not sure it's any good, but just an example of what I'm thinking...
CHI sends: #11 and Lonzo Ball ($21.4m expiring) for #18....ORL drafts Stephon Castle (if he'll be there) or Cody Williams
ORL basically absorbs Lonzo's bad money (he won't be playing , most likely)...maybe not the best example, since it's only one more year, but CHI is an old team that, apparently doesn't want to tap out or waste a year with Lonzo's money on the books. ORL could swap picks and, effectively, push $21m of usable cap space to next summer. You'd have to really like the draftee, which is kind of the point.
POR has two picks before us, but they're probably not that desperate to clear cap. They're not in the second apron and they could easily move Brogdon or Simons anytime, if they do decide that saving money is more important. Both would warrant positive trade value, so POR isn't likely to play with us.

Might also be looked at as a way to consider which player(s) could unexpectedly drop and how could we use our cap space to jump up and grab a falling star.
this is the "flattest" draft in recent memory, you could look at 10 mocks and they might all be wildly different. IF FO identifies a guy they REALLY like, I'd love an aggressive move to get him. Castle made some provocative statements about who he won't work out for...that could get interesting. Some mocks don't even have Terrence Shannon, due to his legal issues, but that could be gone two weeks before the draft and he looks like an impressive player to me. He could be all over the place.

Another trade thread for skybox

I guess you can start a “do nothing- everything’s great” thread…that’ll be stimulating.
Having said that - this one died on the vine
How about simply players you’d trade up for in this flat draft. I think Castle is the real deal and he’s got Tiger blood like Suggs.

I'd be all over this. I think lonzo plays this year. It's a low risk high reward move. He's going to come back motivated because he's going to want another payday. If he can come back and be part of what he was, he is exactly the kind of pg we need. Good defender, great 3 point shooter. And a guy that can run the offense. Moving up in the draft is just a bonus. And if lonzo doesn't play this year, you still get to move up in the draft and lonzo is off your books next year. This would be a sneaky good move with lots of payoff potential.

Honestly, too good for a expiring…CHI would have to be super motivated and impatient. They’d probably do it for Zach.but that’s awholeother level. I agree with your assessment of Lonzo…he’s the best player on CHI if healthy. He was completely the architect of their brief success…bummer he’s so bad off.

You sure he ever plays? Guy had meniscus transplatation few days ago, after going through several failed surgeries.
Keep in mind most doctors had no clue what causes his pain, and there is no guarantee he will be better any time , or ever again.
This thing is going on for over 2 years now. He hasn't played since January of 2022.
Most people who have meniscus surgery either have own repaired or it's simply removed. Lonzo now had: repairment, removal and "return". You can make safe assumption something is horribly wrong with his knee.

Well from his mouth he's going to be ready to go on opening day. It remains to be seen. I would do this trade based on the thread if we don't make any big FA moves. That and guys have a funny way of making it back on to the court and pushing the pain aside when millions of dollars are on the line. It's going to be the difference between him getting a minimum prove it contract vs a multi year deal if he's able to play this year and prove he can be at least some form of what he was. That being said, I hope we are able to trade for a healthy pg this off season. I've had enough of injury prone pgs with Fultz on this team.

My whole thought behind this (lame) thread was that he wouldn't play...that we'd be eating someone's garbage deal in return for a pick swap or something else...overthinking, as usual

How about...
Memphis trades 9 and Kennard into the Magic's cap space for 18?

Isn't he a Team Option? They can just waive him.

I'd be all for the Magic just trading 18 for Kennard. Even a one year rental, this is a good deal for Orlando.

It’s all fun and games until you realize this FO just takes what comes to them.
