Possible Magic Rebrand Happening

OmarMagic12 (who has had great info on city jersey leaks in the past and is reliable) has said the Magic are in the process of a rebrand. The rebrand will incorporate older popular elements from Magic jerseys in the past.

For those of us who are not a fan of the current space age designs, like myself, this is welcome news!

Here is the info he was given, as well as a mockup he made. This is all unofficial.

Hope you all enjoy and have fun discussing! There is nothing more fun or brainless than logo and jersey talk and I love every minute of it.

My father just passed away Monday and one of my fondest memories with him was going to a Magic game where Shaq and Penny slaughtered the Knicks. This post about a throwback to the woodmark on the jerseys of that era brought a tear to my eye.

A “re-brand” generally means more than just new uniforms, an example of this would be what the Tampa Bay Bucs did in 96, new logo with new team colors and uniforms that reflect that. I think the Magic are way overdue for a brand overhaul.

Bring back the old logo. Tweaked for 2024, but it would be infinitely better than the current non-entity.

Thanks for sharing this rebrand development. I believe one of us shared here a survey the team was conducting a few years ago about fan sentiment on the marketing and branding and I, for one, took advantage of the opportunity.

This reminds me of 2008, 2009 when a fellow poster shared that the team was showing new concepts to the players and some leaks came out of that. I remember specifically the mention about angled pinstripes.

After I hit "submit" on my last post, I started to recall our most recent jerseys that debuted during the 2008/2009 season. This was two seasons before we moved into the new arena and changed logos.

During those two years, our soon-to-come and now current logo was hiding in plain sight as the workmark on those jerseys.

So! This brings me to now...

Based on OmarMagic12's description of the neckline and pinstripes harking back to the original 90s unis with the number font representing the current era, I turn your attention to Shaq's retirement jersey banner.

It checks all the boxes from Omar's tweet.

It's quite possible that it's a preview of our new jerseys...!

The back of that Shaq jersey looks great. Very clean.

Now the same on the front, with a modern update to the original 'Orlando' and 'Magic' font - and we're finally back to having some of the best jerseys in all of basketball..
