RaeQuan Battle, West Virginia.
Tristan Enaruna, Cleveland State.
Harrison Ingram, North Carolina.
Malevy Leons, Bradley.
Jamal Shead, Houston.
KJ Simpson, Colorado.
Nae'Qwan Tomlin, Memphis.
Jaylen Wells, Washington State
Filipowski- Duke

Figured we could start a thread of known guys that have come in for workouts so far. My first impressions of this list… YUCK :banghead:
Not sure what we are doing here but I know we aren’t playing Texas Hold’em . To much value and talent at 18 to not be seriously looking and working those guys out. Going forward the 18th pick should be viewed as a luxury if we are serious about being a contender so it’s absolutely vital to get this pick right

When do we draft anyone we work out?

Our scouts have been following players for years and years. We don’t need to work out the players we are high on.

You work someone out if you have any questions. And it’s only one work out.

Considering past draft under Weltman regime, we might as well cross out these players as out potential rookies. Lol

We also aren’t done yet… You still have 3 weeks and the later weeks you normally get the actual targets in for workout. But as people have said this front office either tries to keep it secret or just does an interview with no workout to conceal stuff.

I'd say interviews, which aren't even necessarily in person anymore, might hold more weight than in-gym workouts nowadays. If a guy has an off-day shooting but has a season (or more) of evidence that he can shoot (or dribble or defend, etc), a GM might overlook the workout. I really like the interviews, where players are asked to break down film or their own performances or say where they see themselves fitting in and how they can contribute, etc. I LOVE that stuff...Mike Schmitz was the best source, but POR hired him full-time. I'm often surprised or impressed with how some guys break down film so articulately, quickly, and intelligently. Those are the kind of guys that I see outplaying their draft positions.

Eyy, a Dutch prospect! :usa: (I'm imagining the Dutch flag) Though "prospect" might be more accurate. Still, would be cool to have him on the summer league squad or smt. Same with Jesse Edwards. And Quinten Post I just hope gets drafted in the second round by someone outright.

Other than that, looks like a bunch of guys for the second round and udfa. Except Filipowki, even though I'd hope that involves a trade back of some sort. Still, he does vaguely resemble the kind of guy our front office goes for (big, versatile skillset).

1. None of these guys are being scouted for the 18th pick. Teams work out players for a variety of reasons, many of it for Summer League teams, 2nd round guys, or guys for two-way spots.

2. Getting this pick right is probably 10th on the list of Magic-related "vital" things this offseason.

I mean the guys who are slated from mid-lottery to end of 1st round are realistic picks at 18 (if we keep the pick). The others are worked out for a myriad of reasons.

Look at the draft pick workouts from the Paolo draft:

I’d realistically like/expect them to be bringing in guys that are slated to be going around pick 18 or later in the first round.

-Carlton Carrington
- Baylor Scheierman
- Zach Eddy
- Nikola Durisic
- Tristan Da Silva

That would be a realistic list IMO. And I do think the 18th pick should be a big priority. Any of those guys above are probably an upgrade over someone already on the bench. Getting this pick right will shape what we do this Summer, If we can nail one of our needs through the draft maybe we can go after bigger pieces in free agency .

Jamal Shead looks like a great running mate with Suggs

Is anyone else high on Nikola topic? He might be there at 18 considering his acl injury he was supposed to go top 5. I think his game will translate well and he could end up being our pg. If we don't trade our pick I think he'd be a great project player for the future if he fell to us.

Teams also work out these guys for scouting reports against teams they end up playing for or future trade prospects.

Oh I know. IMO except for Flip, the guys listed to me are all candidates for 2nd rounders.

I can't see them even meeting a 6'1 guy shooting .309 from 3 in college, but he's 200 lbs, so maybe he's a little bulldog like Jameer?

Seems like they are scouting Potential Undrafted Rookies for G-League for half o them. FLipowski and Wells sound promising.
