2024 NBA Draft night open thread, round 1, June 26th

Post#1 » by Message Boar » Wed Jun 26, 2024 11:52 am

The day is here, tonight we will finally know what the Magic will do with this unusually low pick (18th). How are you all feeling? Is there a fan event to watch the draft in the arena again, and if yes, is anyone going?

Quick facts:

Date: June 26 (round 1), June 27 (round 2)

Draft time: 8 p.m. ET, coverage start time: 7:30 p.m. ET

TV channel(s): ABC, ESPN, Streaming: ESPN+

First draft i'm going into with zero preconceived notions, hopes, or anything, lol. I'll probably tune in to see who we pick as it's coming up, watch the commentary, google some vids, and then hopefully be excited for whoever the team picks, haha. I'm not expecting this player to crack the rotation next year. I expect them to be like Jett and spend most of their season in the G-League or overseas if it's a draft and stash (do those happen as much anymore though?).

Thank you for creating the thread Message Boar, much appreciated!

Like my fellow mod UCF stated, I come into this draft without any perceived notions. There are about six to seven players that I like at our draft slot. I'm even good with trading this pick tbh if there is logical sense behind it.

I voted for Bub as the guy I would like to take. Been watching a lot of tape and I really like his game. I'm also in the camp of hoping Nikola Topic falls to us. Hope you all enjoy tonight and be safe out there!

Voted OTHER.
Specifically, trade the pick. Anthony plus the 18 should net a starting quality guard in the trade market.

For me tonight is less about the draft and more about draft night trades.

0 expectations and there are about 9 players that I would be fine with. In no specific order we'd go: Carter, Carrington, Kolek, Shannon Jr, George, Walter, McCain, Da Silva, Holmes

A few do not touches would be Edey, Topic, Ware
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

I definitely think Topic will be the pick if he falls to 18.

The ultimate "delay making any and all important decisions as long as humanly possible" front office in the entire league picking a guy who probably won't play as a rookie because of a knee injury?

It makes too much sense :noway:

Seems like Carter and Topic will be gone. I like McCain’s shooting, but is he a 6’2 SG? Feel like we’d be giving away our size advantage.

I like DaSilva and Shannon…but they are 23…how does that impact their development curve.

I am probably leaning Filipowski at the moment. Furphy is interesting. I like Kyshawn George. Pacome Dadiet has come to my attention recently; haven’t really seen any video but the write ups are interesting…could be surprise pick. Wouldn’t hate Carrington either.

I somewhat expect the Magic to punt both picks down the road, and they never turn into anything good.

I personally don't want a rookie, I want to see trades.

Carrington ( I think he's gone before we pick) or Edey for me. I have to admit though players drafted in drafts where there aren't dominant players at the top always seem to surprise me good or bad. There tends to be too many players to keep an eye one for me personally.

EDIT: I'm also in the trade the pick group. I mean if Howard couldn't get playing time....

I get your rationale here regarding the FO

Would this be a bad pick in your eyes if this does happen tonight?

Honestly? No.

Topic is quite clearly a top 10 talent in this draft and may have gone top 5 with no knee trouble.

There's always risk in drafting a guy who probably needs a major knee surgery, but he is good value at 18.

Carrington would be a strange pick to me. To make that one make sense, the Magic would need to show a willingness to move existing pieces around to a level they haven't really shown since Weltman's been here.
