14 ppg 4rpg 6 foot 7 OG Anunoby getting $200M+ has helped set the market now for starting small forwards.
20ppg 6-10 younger Franz is all but guaranteed after this **** of a contract for OG

Anunoby's calling cards don't show up in the stats to the same degree...except for the 41% from 3. He's a lockdown menace who can defend 4 positions on an elite level. A perennial All-Defense candidate...a much bigger Suggs. I hope Franz is cool with less and work for a max next time...I wouldn't be surprised to see them wait until next summer by mutual agreement. Franz knows he's a better shooter than he showed and FO has no incentive to hurry up and early "negotiate" a max anyway...you can always give a max.
Suggs' stats don't support a huge extension...but there's certainly an argument for his defense and intangibles.
*I'd also say Suggs may want to lock in his extension because his 40% from 3 might be a little less certain to be his new normal.

OG had the knicks by the balls, you don't trade for Bridges and then skimp out and not pay for OG.

OG got paid for his Defense, not his 14 ppg

When you look at absolute volume and the entire body of work, Franz Wagner is the higher value asset.
57ts% vs 59ts% for OG is not a stark difference. OG is a better outside shooter but Franz is quite a bit younger and players are paid a premium on rookie extensions because there is assumption that they improve more because of their age.

Anyone hoping for Franz to sign for less than his max was just wishing and not being realistic

OG was my number 1 target in free agency this year if he didn't sign with NY but I still think that's a crazy pricetag for a guy that sits almost half of every year

Franz one of the best two-way players in the league.

health is a thing too. OG has injury history, only played 70+ games his rookie year

Franz at 215 to max.
He may sign for 215 but that’s like 2 million per less than max.

He may not sign until next season. I'm not sure why people here want to give him a max extension asap.

Franz might not get the absolute maximum amount of money he can get, but he ain't giving any sort of significant discount and never was.

The Magic could say here's 5 yrs $180m or let's wait until next season.

The only way he takes less than the max is if we have a wink wink deal to sign MoeSwag with a contract thats worth above him

The way Magic fans are panicking about paying our players when they get good... with money that isn't ours lol. As long as we're not cap crippling ourselves to guys that don't deserve it, don't see an issue.

This number was never in doubt. Suggs could get it. Paolo will be $300+

I believe the Magic want to maintain cap flexibility for next year so because a max is so much higher than his cap hold he is not getting a max extension this year, he will have to wait until next. Now, I could see the Magic meeting in the middle as a favor because this will be Franz 1st big contract, sometimes players will choose not to chance it and wait a year to sign for guaranteed money because you just never know what can happen in a year that can impact his career. Ask Oladipo or Schroeder.

Simple question...may be here somewhere:
IF extensions are agreed to THIS summer, are they calculated based on PRESENT CAP NUMBER (or do they adjust to next year's - when they become active)?
*I'm trying to conceive of an advantage to signing Franz to a max now if there's no advantage to team. Handing out a max is not a "negotiation", now or next summer. Either way, he's a restricted FA and going nowhere without team's consent. Player's incentive to sign NOW for a little less is security against a terrible injury or even a down year that further diminishes player's leverage. We have to admit that Franz' 3pt shooting this season is an issue - we all believe it'll get fixed, but why pay ahead if there's no incentive or savings for team to do it now. Franz, rightfully, might prefer to bet on himself for another year than take any reduction now...that's fine.
