The Orlando Magic have declined their $8 million team option on Moe Wagner for the 24-25 season. Wagner and the Magic each have interest in discussing a new contract in free agency. The Magic plan to utilize their cap space in the offseason on the open market.

You think if someone offers Moe like a bigger deal he will bolt from us?

We can give Moe the same deal he has with more years after we sign free agents using the room exception.

Orlando currently has a single C in its rotation. That must be addressed. It is not a given that M-Wagner will resign. Indeed if he gets a big raise somewhere else, signing Bitadze to a contract upgrade to be the primary backup is not impossible.

I think it's a given that Moe will sign here. They probably already have a deal in place with the room exception, but we need to use our cap space first. Players like Drummond are on the market for minimum deals.drsd wrote:RookieStar wrote:You think if someone offers Moe like a bigger deal he will bolt from us?

I bet they have a tentative reasonable deal.
If DET or whoever came and offered him a big raise, all parties, including Franz, would wish him the best with his new team. No bad blood or hard feeling- some teams are just in better circumstances to overpay…like we were, at the time.
He’ll be back, 90%

It is not 100% that he would be back. If some team wants to offer M-Wagner 3 years and 40M, he will leave. And I agree that F-Wagner would be happy to wish his brother well.
One thing lost in all this is that M-Wagner would take a 300k pay cut this year on a Room deal. I guess that is made-up by adding an extra year to the deal. Maybe a 3+1 contract on 8M a year?
In conclusion: your 90% is spot on, for me.

Re: Magic Decline Moritz Wagner's Option; Could still return
I see Mo as testing the waters right now and coming back if he doesn't get a big enough raise. Definitely no hard feelings.
Otherwise, well see. This does make one wonder where the rest of the 30 million will go and we need a center play bigtime about now.

He already has a deal in place to get our room exception that gives him a 6k raise next season. They may give him more years. Everyone in the NBA knows this is happening.JoshuaPotter wrote:I see Mo as testing the waters right now and coming back if he doesn't get a big enough raise. Definitely no hard feelings.

They said the Magic and Moe have a mutual interest to stay here. Everyone knows what was happening. The Magic had a team option and made an agreement with him so they could circumvent the cap. Sure, they aren't going to WESH news and say we're circumventing the cap.JoshuaPotter wrote:basketballRob wrote:He already has a deal in place to get our room exception that gives him a 6k raise next season. Why do you say these things with such certainty? Do you have a source that we're paying our backup C $14m next year?

EDIT: Sorry, I didnt' see where you quoted "Everybody in the NBA"

Re: Magic Decline Moritz Wagner's Option; Could still return
The room exception kicks in once we hit the cap of 141 and it's like 8 million maybe 600,000 or something like that. And he was only getting 8 million before. So it'd be like $600,000 raise.Skybox wrote:basketballRob wrote:He already has a deal in place to get our room exception that gives him a 6k raise next season. They may give him more years. You know what...he did say 6k...my bad on that part Rob.
There's certainly a strong assumption that they have a deal agreed to, but the terms are not known to us. If DET offers him $15m while he's in limbo, he'll take it and everyone will congratulate him.
