we knew he wasnt a #1 or #2 option. So with Paolo out and him shouldering more of an offensive initiator role, his game was going to suffer some. He doesnt suck, still gives great defense. We all knew he shouldnt be a PG but a defensive SG. the fault is in the front office

edit: read this before game thread, so things make more sense

I am not too concerned. When Paolo comes back he’ll naturally be shuffled back into a role offensively that he’s better suited for.

Like TDS, the jumper looks too pure to just keep missing.

The identity of this team is defense and passing, and he certainly is the centerpiece of the former. He is extremely hit and miss when thrust into a primary scorer role which isn’t surprising as he expels most of his energy on the other end of the floor. It’s like a worker being told to take the day and the night shift because his other coworker is sick…not going to be the best work.

If the Magic can develop another scoring threat to help Franz while Paolo is out, it’ll allow Suggs to take smarter shots and stop forcing. Real opportunity for the rest of this young team to step up.

He'll probably end up shooting 36% plus again from 3 while being 1st team all-defense by the end of the season.

It seems like I remember Pepe saying the same thing early last season while Suggs 3-pt average was low and me predicting the same thing from Suggs.

Suggs 39-42 from the FT line for 93% tells me that his shot has improved. He's just a streaky player.

Not worried. He's focused his training on being the best defender in the world, a catch-and-shoot threat, and a 3rd option on offense and he's developing well on all three fronts.

He's an all-around contributor on offense, able to get a bucket or assist a bucket at lower usage.

My only concern is that he can't consistently carry a 3rd option offensive workload.

It's amazing that we've played well with KCP, Suggs, Harris, and AB all shooting poorly. They have been amazing defensively. It makes me think that this team has a way higher peak that we haven't reached yet.

The dawg in the room is also an elephant. Not concerned, just a cold spell for him re: shooting.

He does have a career high in DRtg. So that's something. Is that worth five-year, $150.5 ? Umm: no.

Orlando has a tall Alex Caruso on its books moving forward. Over-paid, but not "he sucks".

My fear is that Suggs style of play is certain of "career-ending injury". I hope I am wrong, but how can his play style be sustained for another 5 1/2 years?????

Suggs clearly has wrist problems now (both wrists). That worries me! The kid is only 23.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Edit: sorry, that was rude of me. Suggs development invites criticism, which is fine.

Raptors fan here.

I am in the belief Suggs has the 2nd highest ceiling of your team.

What's stopping him on offense is that his best role is that of a 2 way elite slasher (Wade, who himself wasn't a good three point shooter).

Image

He's ping ponging from either being a star or role player on offense.

54% of his shots are threes and basically assisted while 46% of his 2s are basically him ISOing and he's good at it.

It's going to require a change in shot diet, but I believe the guy could get to the rack anytime he wants and eat at the FT line.
