The Wagner Brothers Doco

Hadnt seen a thread on this, so thought id start one. Im only on EP1, but some interesting comments from Moe already from around the time of his free agency about being more than ok playing away from Franz and not wanting to be babysitter. Also said something along the lines of "im a basketball player, not an educator", in reference to his perceived role as merely Franz's support person. His general vibe was of wanting to be respected on his own merits and not feeling valued by the initial contract offer. I do wonder if his perspective has changed at all now.

Link to the episode's are here, you just need to turn the subtitles on as its in German mostly:

Episode 1: https://www.zdf.de/sport/the-wagner-brothers/brueder-folge-1-doku-100.html
Episode 2: https://www.zdf.de/sport/the-wagner-brothers/champions-folge-2-doku-100.html
Episode 3: https://www.zdf.de/sport/the-wagner-brothers/nomaden-folge-3-doku-102.html
Episode 4: https://www.zdf.de/sport/the-wagner-brothers/entscheidungen-folge-4-doku-100.html

Keen to get your thoughts on it also...

Moe has to be realistic. His success AFTER his rookie contract is probably due more to his "mentoring" Franz than his own merits.

It actually gave him an "extension" to be his own man and a chance to show the world his worth.

Also, looks like Kid Simius created a full original soundtrack for the doco. Album will be released in a few days on spotify. The track list looks like it might have some tunes we can play at the arena!! One track is called "Orlando Magic", another two others called "My name is Franz" and "My name is Moritz". Interesting...

His contract situation in 2023 was a bit different. He could've indeed felt disappointed that only one team (his own) was offering him a contract and tried to low-ball him at the same time. Eventually he earned 8 million in 23/24 and signed an extension this off-season for 22/2.
After 2 episodes I can already say it's a **** great experience. I understand German to a degree (with the great help by German subtitles) so it's even better.

If youre on Chrome, use the translate function in the main menu and it all coverts to english. It will even convert the german subtitles to english which is cool.

I'm enjoying it so far. Thanks for sharing.

It also helps that my German is not great, but it's not zero. I can mostly get the gist of it, even if I do keep the English translated subs on just for backup. Oh and I lol'd when Dirk Nowitzki just randomly starts showing up and chiming in for bits and pieces.

Ah, I knew the day would come where speaking German would come in handy in a basketball context.

In episode 2 they beat the Americans. I'm surprised they don't talk about Paolo at all. :(

Actually there's no mention of Magic players at all in the whole series. Also no Magic players talk, just a few words from coach Mose and assistant coach Bret Brielmaier. I found it really weird. Either no one wanted to (would be uncool) or Wagners didn't want to (would be strange but understandable). Or maybe the team simply has not allowed them. All in all it was unexpected to hear Paolo's name only like once or twice. Hope it's not a big deal for the team's chemistry.

I think the team will go in a spiral because not enough of them were in the Wagner doc. :D

Yeah, I finished it and found it disappointing in that regard. Great insight into their lives, otherwise!

Load up the links on the original post. Then, in Chrome turn on the translate setting and make it to english. Then if you turn on the german subtitles in the player itself, it will auto translate the german subs to english on the fly. Pretty cool tbh.

Does anyone here speak German and can translate these lyrics? I can hear Penny Horace and Shaq and Wagner Brothers in the lyrics, but no idea about the rest.
