can we all admit that this is one of our worst recent FA signings?
worst ppg as a starter in his career, 2nd worst 3 pt % in his career. yes, he isnt making $30mil+/year, but this was a fail of an offseason in signings. Moving Suggs to PG where he doesnt impact the game like he does as a SG, which has also affected his offense. This front office failed with this signing and team design.

Aminu, Jeff Green, Jonathan Simmons all have something to say about this.
Simmons had 1 good year for Spurs at age of 27. We signed him, in matter of year and half he was out of nba for good. Weltman's player.
Aminu signed biggest MLE possible ( around $10M a year i think ? ) , at age of 29. Suited up 18 times in first year, 17 times in second year, traded , played 6 more nba games and never played in nba again. Weltman's player.
Jeff Green... where to start ? They gave 1 years $15M to a guy who took PT away from Gordon, Harris, Evan, Hezonja in tanking year, sucked so hard, just to find out he isn't that bad later, just didn't give a flying f****. Guy took 1 year off caring about basketball in Orlando

Suggs mostly played with Gary Harris last season who is even less of a PG than KCP is and did fine.
Anyway, Aminu was definitely worse off the top of my head.

I'm afraid I have to agree. I can give him so much credit going into the season and even for a slow start. But he would have to shoot lights out remainder of the season and still be under average.
As bad as the KCP signing is though, I am also totally on the outs for Harris.
I worry about Suggs. He seems like the kid who always tries and gives 110% out there. But his style of play is no doubt injury prone. If you asked me going into the year, I would have put KCP / Suggs at about the same level of impact just doing it in slightly different ways. No there is no question that Suggs is a good to very good 3rd option and KCP might just need best player of all time to bring out his max potential.

LOL
Its not about those players, its about our playmakers.
KCP didnt forgot how to play at 31 years of age.
Its about Banchero, its some about Wagner and mostly about lack of point guard.

In a vacuum, his signing hasn't lived up to expectations.
Even at our current record, he still holds value in the locker room and as a trade chip, as other teams would look past his troubling stats.
If you look at his game log from the past few seasons, it's not crazy different from what he's putting up this season. But I think I speak for everyone when I say we expected him to push us to more wins. Still, I could argue he has helped us win games we otherwise wouldn't have, even if you wanted more.
My verdict: not the worst/second worst.
Also...
If WePark have the stones to make a trade before the deadline, they could maximize the type of player everyone expected when we signed KCP.
Because let's face it, as constructed, this team won't go as far as we want.

you could probably wash away the other bad FA deals since we weren't competitive and tanking but this one was supposed to be a help and right now all we're seeing is Gary Harris 2.0 while they brought back the original Gary Harris

Zooming out, we currently have the 3rd worst offense and the 4th best defense in franchise history relative to league averages.
We had the 15th worst offense and the 6th best defense last season. This is out of 36 seasons.
Our top ten in minutes played are
KCP
TDS
AB
Suggs
Franz
WCJ
Goga
Cole
JI
Moritz
Hardly an ideal distribution of minutes. It's obvious that we have to factor in the injuries to explain why our offense is so terrible.
I mean that looks like a tanking team's distribution of minutes. You've got a spot-up shooter, a rookie, and a sophomore in your top 3 minutes. And yet we are in playoff contention with a better defense? A lot of credit goes to KCP. I'M NOT OUT ON HIM AT ALL.

Aminu wasnt signed as a starter. Green was a 1 year rental. Simmons was under $7 mil (at that time) and was a bet on further development. still dont think they were as bad a signing as KCP.

Suggs last year wasnt positioned to handle the ball as much as they have him doing this year and his offense shows it.

thats what i am saying though. It isnt just about KCP's play, its about the front office bringing in KCP when we had a similar player already in Suggs, and moving Suggs to PG which has affected him and still forcing Franz and Paolo to be the primary playmakers, when at least Paolo has asked for help

Well ok, on some level i agree. Still KCP is not on awful deal and he is not a bad player.

i think we can say his play is bad and not worth his contract right now

Sure, but that's because Franz and Paolo were healthy last season, not because we signed KCP.

KCP does have some blame but to be honest this is what happens when you don't have Jokic, Jamal Murray finding you every other day.
This team has awful spacing and nobody except Franz for half-court playmaking. He is not a good fit next to Suggs. We are the worst shooting team in the league for a reason. A career 40% 3PT shooter just doesn't forget how to shoot. This roster just doesn't mix well together. We need a PG for God sake to fill in so many holes. KCP is a bench player at this point in his career.

Jeff Green is such a funny story. He came here on a 1 year 15 mill and looked absolutely COOKED. One of the more obvious cases of “going through the motions” that I can remember.
He’s since gone on to play like 8 more seasons, contributed on contending teams, won a ring, and occasionally jumps out of the gym for wild poster dunks

At some point KCP’s shot is going to fall. Too much emphasis on people thinking his performance is due to not having Jokic anymore. The guy is a CAREER 41% shooter from corner 3 and is currently hitting them at 27%. Worst and longest shooting slump of his career - just a matter of time and things wont look so bad.
