What Happened to Franz Jumpshot?

Post#1 » by KillMonger » Fri Mar 28, 2025 4:59 am

Somewhere along the way something went wrong, i heard a theory that it has something to do with the weight franz has put on....he came into the league about 215-220 i would say now he's around the 230-235 but i could be wrong on that.....clearly something happened and it's probably his only glaring weakness....can he turn it around? will he have the time with Eurobasket this summer?

Clearly he had more flow to his shot in his early years.....He shot the ball better in his first two years 35% and 36% respectively....what happened?

The thing is that F-Wagner's 29.7% three ball this year is actually better than last year's 28.1%.

I'll never understand why it's so hard to just have smooth motion in the jumper. I'm as far as you can get from a pro but I can go to the park right now and have no hitch in my shot. I'm not aware of any shoulder issues for Franz, so who knows why he can't just smooth it out. His %'s don't suggest he should keep doing what he's doing.

It was fine before the oblique injury... and it seems like that has altered his shot since them.

He would really benefit from a quality guard that could find him for easy catch and shoot opportunities.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

I mean probably, but last night he was 0-5 and had a few shots with infinite time being wide open.

Stats say he is at 30.1% on open 3s and 29.9% on wide open 3s.

The sum of Franz is still an awesome player, so I don't focus too much on it, but would be nice if he got at least a little better.

The hitch came back after he returned from oblique injury. Idk how of that is still lingering and affecting it? Before the injury his shot looked more like before.

Should have signed chip engelland.

Never understood Weltman about this. The Thunder hired him last year, got him from the Spurs. Long time Spurs shooting coach. World renowned.

It's just not a serious franchise.

The injury affected it for the worst, which isnt surprising, but even prior it was shaky where he would switch up his mechanics weirdly at times mid game

If we were serious about winning anything, Franz would sit out from international play this Summer.

If he doesnt on a year after the Olympics, then I'm going to just accept the shot will continue to be inconsistent for the rest of his career because he needs heavy reps without distractions to build the muscle memory necessary. If not we might see flashes of the good jumper like earlier this season, but it will switch randomly to a bad form like we also saw pre injury

Last season Franz was 31,8% before all star and 18,5% after all star. This year he is 31,7% and 22,6%
So he basicly has the same shot issue as he didn't have enough time to fix in summer.
And again his shooting takes a nose dive to finish the season. A professional team should do whatever to solve such a problem for a francise player. Hire personal, do the analitics, whatever. To say, hey Franz, go take some threes in summer is not good enough. Dude is an all star WITHOUT a shot and he is actually 35+ % shooter. Whatever is the issue mental or phisical you adress it as a team.

Because thletes are idiots. They find those "shot gurus" who are bull sellers and who ask them probably $50-80K to work for few months and they ruin their jumpshot and call failure -process, so they need to come back next year.

Like, you watch somebody like Lebron James, top 5 athlete in the world, in summer working with some idiot doing squats, and his squats look criminal, form is injury waiting to happen, he does parshall reps, doesn't hit depth, only agregates his lower back, with no stress on leg muscles.

Like, every single doctor, fitness coach, kinesiology coach will tell you this is injury in making. Now imagine how many dumb stuff not as famous players do.

I talked about this few months ago, how young athletes take personal coaches during season and those guys film them for self- promotion and burn them down, so athletes return to club in worst shape than they were before, and usually injury happen as direct result of burnout & overtrain.

reminds me of what happened to giannis.....rookie year his form was fine and he shot like 35% from 3....next season his form looks completely different and we know the rest....word on the street is some shooting coach ruined his form and essentially took away from the league a giannis that could shoot....it's hard to imagine what a giannis that could shoot league average would've done to this league considering what he's done already with no shot
