He specifically said that we need to go get some help for the playoffs. He's expecting moves.

Let's see how ugly this situation gets when they bring in someone like Tyus Jones (who I am a fan of) and call it a day.

Ignore your star at your own peril, Jeff. You've already done it once.

I'm just not worried about Paolo becoming disgruntled or anything like that.

He's about to agree to a 5 year extension on top of the 1 year he has left on his contract.

He'll be here for a long time.

Im sure Dallas thought that about Luka. Cleveland thought that about Lebron. Toronto and Bosh. SA and Kawhi. OKC and Durant/Westbrook. Giannis is looking around now.

Stars look to leave now if they dont like what is going on with the home team.

Luka didn't ask to leave or want to leave Dallas. They very stupidly chose to trade him without his knowledge.

LeBron and Bosh didn't leave their original teams until their contracts were up when they departed as free agents. Durant same thing, only even longer than LeBron and Bosh as he was with OKC for 9 seasons before departing.

Giannis has spent 12 years in Milwaukee at this point.

We're heading into Year 4 of Paolo and he's about to sign up for 5 more. There's no real concern about any of that.

i guess we will see. I dont have the same confidence as you as players have started asking for help and not getting that help

bad examples, but his point is accurate...disgruntled stars can make things very uncomfortable, regardless of contract, especially if the whole NBA world can see that he's right.

Worried? No.

Calling it. Yes.

You don't have to be disgruntled for it to be a bad move.

People were "calling it" since he got drafted and was from Seattle and there might be a future expansion team there.

In fact, people have been saying all sorts of things about Paolo wanting a PG being a shot at the FO/Franz strugging in the final game last year (then immediately praises Franz after the game) and the other stuff he's consistently said he loves Orlando, wants to re-sign, hopes to sell Orlando as a destination with his play, letting the FO do their job, etc.

Can he get disgruntled if no moves continue to happen? Sure. But NBA players realize the timeline better than anyone, which is why Giannis is contemplating his future. He's in his prime and only has a few years left in it.

If orlando keeps being 1st round exit with no NBA level PG Paolo will 100% ask to be traded

I already know this is going to come off far more harsh than I am actually feeling, but who cares...

The fact of the matter is Paolo Banchero, while still super young and obviously loaded with potential, has simply not accomplished enough to justify complaining his way out of town at this point in his professional basketball career.

He's not a top 10 NBA player. He's probably not even a top 20 NBA player at this point. He's never even won a playoff series. He simply does not have the stroke right now to pull any sort of nonsense like that.

He's gonna agree to his designated player maximum contract extension just like Franz did and that's gonna be the end of the discussion for a while.

And he's gonna play out *at least* the next 3 years of his contract. And then at that point if things are still crappy? Ok sure, then we can talk.

Magic fans have PTSD when it comes to stars so every young player comment, move, etc is scrutinized and projected by fans. It's why we have think pieces and debates over if someone smiled enough on draft night or looked "happy" to go to Orlando lol.

If Orlando keeps being a 1st round exit team, that will be Paolo's fault primarily.

It's not THAT difficult to win a first round series.

Just in the three years that Paolo's been in the NBA, 13 different teams have won a first round series. That's almost half of the entire league.

It's definitely a mix between Paolo and FO's. Paolo had already asked for a table setter so he doesn't have to do it all. If the FO continues to ignore his request then why should Paolo stay. It's a dumb topic because I think the FO makes moves this year and it's all water under the bridge

on paper, I agree with you...but what if the player (and his agent and his well-informed Mom) truly believes (like many of us if it continues) that his potential and even his NBA life span is being squandered by an inactive FO...I think Weltman is ready to step up to the plate this summer - as he said - but Paolo and his supporters could make a pretty good case against the FO if he's again thrown to the wolves again and again without any reasonable degree of support.

I think if it got really ugly, like a Butler situation, I could see Weltman "resigning by mutual agreement" before ownership watches another #1 overall player bolts or makes ORL the league's laughingstock/dumpster fire. Franz seems much more reserved and unemotional...but it's no different for him either.

I'll also quickly admit that it's a dangerous precedent to let players run the FO...but it's far from unique nowadays and I don't think Paolo's being at all disruptive so far...but his mother didn't pull those complaints out of mid-air. You know they were previously discussed and that there was plenty of merit to the issue.

I come down directly in your corner on this. I think the concerns are actually absurd and irrational.
