The rare occasion where my favorite college player ends up on my favorite team. I am very excited and hope everyone here ends up liking him as much as I did watching him in college.

As a Spartan fan I can tell you Jase is a stud. His measurables aren’t great but the kid has all the intangibles. He plays winning and smart basketball.

For what it’s worth Weltman said they were considering Jase with the 16th pick

This is one of those potential steals of the draft that just so happens to fill a major area of need for the Magic. Couldn’t have gone any better. Throw in the fact that people had him in the top ten conversation until measurables derailed his stock and it’s very possible he becomes a major part of a championship team.
Our biggest concern was replacing bench scoring and wow did we address it.
Weltman needs to strut down the street with his pimp hat and cane with this offseason so far. Making the picks we fans have been clamoring for. Well done Jeff!

I have concerns that this is Cole 2.0.
Yes, Jase was more efficient in college than Cole. Yes, he has a 6’6” wingspan, but Jase is going to have to do it against much bigger and better athletes now. And he doesn’t have Cole’s bounce.
He’s 6-foot barefoot and weighed 178 pounds at the combine.
I hope he was drafted for another team (but it doesn’t seem like it based on early indications).

If Jase becomes a poor mans Brunson/Derrick White does that mean we won the AG trade?
Gary Harris
RJ Hampton
Jase Richardson

But again... this is somewhat silly to me.
Cole has more bounce, sure, but his athleticism was ultimately irrelevant to his ability to finish at the rim in college because it wasn't all that functional for him in traffic. He was a poor finisher at North Carolina and it took him five years to become a good finisher in the pros.
Maybe it won't translate, but Jase was the shortest guy on the court in almost every game he played in with Michigan State too and he still managed to finish in the halfcourt at a high level in college.

Gary Harris
RJ Hampton
Jase Richardson
If he can be more of a Mike Conley/FVV type of player, Id say we come out of that trade in positive way.

Denver won a championship... we lost that trade unless Jase contributes to a championship for us.

This is what I was talking about. He took a lot of well contested shots and was able to make a few of them against college players.
The lack of bounce at the next level with the types of shots he takes worries me. I just couldn’t articulate it. His wing span could be the difference maker and he’s creative at the rim so I think it’ll likely be fine. I support him 100% and hope he blows up for us.

Ummm based on videos Jase has a higher bounce than Cole in college
