EXTEND WELTMAN

Weltman’s rebuild has been patient, disciplined, and coherent. He inherited a broken roster, methodically proved its ceiling was low, and then executed a full teardown at the 2021 deadline. That pivot netted core pieces like Franz, WCJ, and multiple picks that laid the foundation for everything since.
From there, he built around a defensive identity through the draft, prioritizing length, IQ, and character. He managed the cap with discipline and preserved flexibility until the time was right. The Bane trade was that moment. It was an aggressive consolidation before the extensions kicked in and the new CBA rules closed the door on future deals like that.
There were misses. Bamba over SGA, the Fultz trade costing the Maxey pick, and Jett’s slow development. But the hits < Paolo, Franz, Suggs, WCJ > and especially the Vucevic trade more than offset them. The team now has a real core, a top-2 defense, and a financial structure designed for sustainability.
This is not a perfect rebuild, but it is a model one. And it is ahead of schedule.
Grade so far: A
Next step: Convert potential into playoff wins.

8 seasons without results. Next season is crucial. Conference finals at least or he can go with Mosley.

Let’s not be as premature as we did with JI and WCJ extension.

It’s funny to see this right above a thread named FIRE WELTMAN
How things can change in one single summer.

You know what's better than creating high expectations? Reaching them.

You know what’s better than pretending to be above optimism? Being wrong about it every step of the way.

I'm plenty optimistic about this season. I think have a chance to be very good.
I am just not the kind of person who celebrates before anything has actually happened.

I get where you're coming from. I just think there's value in recognizing a strong process, even before the results are final. Outcomes in this league are uncertain. Doing the right things doesn’t guarantee a win, but it puts you in position to get there. That’s worth appreciating.

Just like trusting the process last year with KCP, well see how this year goes. We have on paper added 3 guys known for efficiency on limited USG. We just have to see if Franz and Paolo can develop a respectable 3-ball then the championships will come.
If that happens, yes, Weltman will win executive of the year.

I wish there was a category called "Let's wait and see". I give Weltman his flowers for this off-season, but it has been 8 long years without a lot going on. I'd like to see how we finish the summer and then see what happens this season before giving him an extension.

You want to extend the guy who finally had his first great offseason only after his seat starting getting warm because of his constant bare-minimum efforts and his glacial-paced decision making on obvious issues? No thanks. I'm not sticking with a guy who only does a good job when his job in danger.
Get off your knees and stop embarrassing yourself.

Based on the team's performance. If they win 55+ games and get past the second round he'll be back.
Barring injury i think the Magic will end up being 1st place in the East this upcoming season and easily get to the ECF at least. There isn't any real competition outside of NY and CLE.
