I never understand the movement of deck chairs. Why is Osceola using Orlando bench time to assess its G-league roster? Can't that be done in Osceola?

It's all procedural.

The Magic sign guys like Davis and Minaya and Crutcher to Exhibit 10 contracts which are fully non-guaranteed, minimum-salary deals that then allow Orlando to pick up the player's G-League rights. And it makes sense for the player because they receive a bonus if they play for the team's G League affiliate for at least 60 days.

So a guy like Johnell Davis can earn a $85,300 bonus this season just by playing for the Osceola Magic for 2 months. That may not seem like a ton, but it certainly is when you factor the G-League salary is only like $40 grand.

Fine, but does there player that was waived get that also? I think not.

Yes.

The Magic signed Johnell Davis and waived him the next day for the sole purpose of acquiring his G-League rights.

He will assuredly play for Osceola and assuming he’s there 60 days he’ll get a nice little bonus check.

Wish I could get that money playing ball instead of pushing 60 hour weeks sometimes. Maybe, if I worked 70 hours, I could break $120 for the year . . .
