Once the refs made the call, it wasn't going to change the outcome of the game whatever the NBA said. They just use all these instances when it's the first time it happens in the league as a chance to rub the Magic's nose it in. (i.e., Shaq being able to leave in free agency because it was the only year in at least 20 when there was no chance for the team the player was leaving to match or get some kind of compensation. Grant Hill is out for an entire year and they can't get an injury exception for him. Dee Brown becomes the first player suspended by the NBA for walking onto the court during an altercation -- it was during the playoffs and Dee wasn't anywhere near the altercation. And my very favorite, the first year the NBA makes the first round of the playoffs a best-of-seven, the Magic take a 3-1 lead against Detroit -- and then go on to lose.)
Yes, the NBA is full of them. They just sit in their offices and laugh, saying, "HA! HA! HA! We got them again. And the fans down there justs keep sending us more money.'' Sometimes, you wish that Magic ownership had a little Mark Cuban in them because he at least gets someone's attention.
