Question about 2008 FA

Do you think that since Free Agency 2008 is going to be full of so many big names, and not many teams under the cap, that the entire MLE would get us JR Smith? Would he cost less then the entire MLE? He is averaging 10ppg (40% from 3) 2rpg 2apg 1 stl 2to in 20 mpg.
I think that he would fit really well here. He has good size, 3 shot, and athleticism for SG. He could play good D if properly motivated. Dwight could keep him straight especially after having a signed contract and they are buddies from McDonalds All American.
Jameer/Arroyo, Dooling or Draft Pick
JR Smith/Bogans/JJ
Rashard/Hedo
Battie/Draft Pick/Cook/Fran/Gortat
Dwight/Foyle
JR Smith > Bogans I think.
In Draft 2008 select a defending brusier/rebounder PF, a good shooting PF or tall defensive PG that drops . I really wish that the magic would buy a late first or early second rounder and draft Goran Dragic from 6-4 180 PG from Slovenia.
Could we then also resign one of Dooling or Arroyo?

JR is a headcase, but he's one of the guys I hope Otis try to trade for with our expirings... if not, maybe a part of the MLE could get him as you suggest. JR is a very gifted pure SG.

JR Smith is nothing but problems, and at this juncture Kieth Bogans averages 10.2 and 4 rebounds. Don't see the point of signing a guy who does the exact same thing as Keith, and isn't as much a pro or as stout a defender. I'll say we need to look at a pg or pf instead.

Keith does it in 32 mpg. Bogans is only under contract for one more year. After Bogans, JJ is our only SG. JR Smith is also younger that Bogans and has a lot more upside due to his age and athleticism.
I'd be willing to take a chance that he wont be a head case and buy-in to winning. If not, then trade him away.

I don't think JR and Bogans can even be compared. I mean, he's getting the same numbers Bogans do in 19 minutes from the bench, not 31 minutes as a starter like Bogans. He is a much better player and his only real problem is his head...

hes definately more talented than Bogans but he is a cancer or headcase like people on here said, it has followed him with every team hes been on so in that case I'd rather have bogans any day
in terms of contract....I say he gets less than the MLE and that is based on his reputation

Much rather have Jose Calderon, Josh Childress, or maybe Maggette.

Any of those guys going to be under the MLE or matched if resitricted?

Well Maggette is unrestricted and there are only one or two teams that will actually have more than the midlevel to spend so if he wants out of LA he will have to take a midlevel deal.
Then theres Childress, Calderon, Ellis, and Diop who are restricted. All of these guys will have to settle for the midlevel, it just depends if it will be with their current teams.
Word is Childress is expendable with all of atlantas wing talent.
Ellis may not want to stay behind Davis.
Diop can be had.
And my favorite Calderon should be available with all the money being spent on TJ ford.

Noway Toronto deals Calderon, TJ's neck is just too risky for them to let go a quality pg.

Hopefully Otis uses some creative financing this summer with our MLE.

Bluntly stated, both the starting SG and the starting PF positions will be different next year. Right now, the most obvious path is that the Magic trade Turkoglu for a starting PF (and slide Lewis to the SF slot), and use the MLE, or expiring cap space, on a SG. In that order.
