Get A **** Shooting Coach Otis

Given the importance of putting the ball in the net, one might think all of the NBA's 30 teams would have a shooting coach. After all, all Major League Baseball teams have batting coaches and pitching coaches and bullpen coaches. But fewer than half of the NBA's clubs have someone teaching shooting full-time.
Note these numbers: Seven of the top eight teams in the Western Conference employ a shooting coach. None of the seven worst teams in the Eastern Conference does.
The Wizards didn't have such a coach last season, when Brendan Haywood, for example, dipped to 54.8 percent on free throws, putting his career average below 60 percent. After a few months with Hopla, Haywood is at 71.5 percent. Caron Butler's shooting percentages are at career-best levels on field goals (49.6), 3s (40.9) and free throws (88.7).

it's an absolute mystery as to why we don't have one right now...and it's even more boggling how Dwight's coach, Charles Richardson (who happens to be fairly superior in the field) was let go, and Dwight currently has no real coach aside from inside organization guys like Nick Anderson...

Patrick Ewing was brought in specifically for that reason. And dwight has responded quite well to Patrick's teachings.
With that said, I still think they need a free throw coach.

two things
1) we're talking as a team, I just threw in the Dwight topic while we were on the subject of shooting coaches...
2) Pat was not brought in to specifically teach Dwight how to shoot. He was brought in for development, shooting is but one aspect of that development...

Agreed. When you have such an obvious deficiency, it makes no sense not to work on it.

my sources tell me that Rashard would not agree to pay their salary, and almost all of the organizations $$ is in his pockets therefore can't afford one

It is strange as to why this team doesnt have a shooting coach. This team has historically made bad decisions when it comes to specific coaches such as letting Clifford Ray go and hiring Mark Bryant to replace him and not hiring a shooting coach. Pretty much leaving Dwight to hire one on his own. That shouldnt be happening.

i'd say
insider@orlandomagic.com, if we can get about 50+ fan emails in there, it's going to stir up some thought...i would hope...
give him the old "we demand a qualified shooting coach immediately, it is your responsibility to mend deficiencies, and this is one deficiency that is glaring, primarily at the FT line"

but let us not give up on it, we should be relentless...explain that we dont want whatever we have now, we want a qualified, proven coach instituted at once...

I have League Pass to watch the games . I had to watch the Clipper's broadcast last game . The Clipper's announcer's mentioned a conversation they had with Pat Ewing about Dwight's free throw shooting . Pat told them that Dwight's form was good but he is afraid to let the ball go because of his strength . That makes sense to me .
