Mattyboi...I might be. Sorry about Battie. I like Tony as much as the next guy, but he isn't worth his contract. I'm sorry you are right...Jonny Weisbrod did draft Dwight. I didn't think he was capable of making that decision. I guess you can take that off of my good things about Otis.

A shot blocking soft big man who disappears over a span of several games?

Well then, I have inside sources who said that they did ask him. Unfortunately they didn't ask the misses.

Who was our coach at the time? Was he not on the way out already?

When he would have been sitting on the bench for so many games now?

He would just have turned into an expiring rather than a player with potential.

JJ still has 2 more guaranteed seasons under contract. Whereas Ariza has a player option this off-season.

sean may played almsot as many nba game as fran lol
and fran's skills were >>> lee's on draft day

-JJ: You're right we did need someone to spread the floor. But you have to know that your coach is definitely going to play someone you take at 11.

hill was on his way out

Battie: Kendrick Perkins, ZaZa Pchulia, Reggie Evans, Brendan Haywood, Diop and Chris Mihm all of better contracts than Battie. Battie is making Nick Collison money...who would you rather pay that money to?

battie is better (for our team)than any guys u name

Ariza: Evans only fits our team slightly better because he is a decent outside shooter. Ariza fit our team because we need someone with his wingspan to guard top players that are killing us (Gerald Wallace). I thought Cook would fit in nicely with our team, but let's not say he might be a great back up PF after he has one good game in 2 months. He didn't even play last night. Obviously he doesn't fit into SVG way of thinking.

cook is finally in shape, can't wait to see more of him

mttingly2391 wrote:Otis is a terrible GM. I agree that he should not publicize his intentions regarding the trade deadline, but c'mon. Great he got Dwight signed to a long term deal. What a surprise. Dwight is the king here and he plays on a competitive team. Did anyone think he would pass up a max offer. Anyone could have gotten that done. He signed Rashard...I agreed and still agree with that signing. But its not like other teams were throwing him the kind of money we were. There was not compeition for Rashard. It was not like when we signed TMac and G Hill (what happened with them in the long run has nothing to do wit this post).

To get a real grasp on Otis you have to look at what his moves have done for our team long term.

Jameer: how can you give this guy an extension after last season was way worse than the season before. Terrible move.

Francis trade to NY: this deal turned into overpaying for Rashard and basically just getting Mo Evans since B. Cook will never crack our rotation.

Cato to Det: Great at the time. But we lost Darko (terrible considering he signed for only 7mill/season) and lost a good draft pick.

Fran Vasquez: Don't get me started.

JJ: another wasted lottery pick. The GM has to make sure that he is drafting a player that the coach will absolutely play.

Battie: No one mentions how his contract is one of the worst in the league. Forget that he is injured this year, but he is making almost the same amount of money as Turk. When healthy he isn't even close to a starting PF.

Ariza: terrible trade. At the time it looked good, but how can you pick up B. Cook if SVG isn't going to ever play him. Evans has maxed out his potential and Ariza is already just about as good as he is and will get better.

*Drafting Dwight and signing Van Gundy are the only two moves that Otis has made that are good. Otis has no clue what he is doing. When he makes moves that initially look appealing for this team, he manages to screw them up in the long run.

Otis did not sign Battie, nor did he even trade for him, and Dwight was not drafted by Otis either... you realize he's only been here a few years right?

Okay so now you are saying that Otis and Twardz are responsible for picking Dwight...not sure I buy that one. Twardz has one of the worst track records of any front office guy in the league when it comes to drafts.

What do you mean don't forget Otis scouts Jameer more than anyone?

Battie is not better than all the guys I named. And why is everyone saying that Hill was on his way out when the drafted JJ. Give me a break. He was not. Not only that but they started 13-4. Hill was not on his way out until the team started losing. That is false information.

That is not really true about May, but he is injured now. How can someone say Fran's skills were better than D. Lee on draft day. Fran never did anything on any level. He was just picked based on potential.

Mehectorgato: You are right that nobody checked with the mrs. for Fran. But trust me, my sources are as close you can get to the situation.

And I have to admit, if I were a GM and the Magic offered me Dooling and/or Arroyo, I'd start laughing and hang up.

You're correct, Otis/Dave had no input with picking Dwight, because they weren't even there.

MagicFan3: Thanks but I already corrected myself with who selected Dwight. I realize that Otis has only been here a few years, thanks for the reminder though.

I also know that Otis did not trade for Battie. I never said he did. That was done by the genius Weisbrod. But Battie was resigned by Otis and Dave in March of 2006.

There was a documentary type piece on TV that was aired after the draft, and it showed the process and how Otis/Dave involved in getting Dwight.
It was called "Behind the Lights" and aired on Sun Sports.

Why don't you ask your "source" for more information on the subject?

Remember that they both were here and held positions in the organization, then after Weis left, they both were GMs in a co-GM role. Eventually Otis was made the sole GM.

Yes we need a better pg, but so does more than half of the league. Get over it. I wouldn't want J-Kidd here either, he's getting old and costs wayyy too much.

The historically successful teams are the ones who have been together playing for a while. Give them time to get it together.

I agree with you and I'm not down on Otis - I think some of his moves could be questioned - losing Darko was a shame - he should have been signed the season prior.

I agree that I wouldn't want to give up Hedo and Jameer for Kidd - as Kidd is expensive and won't play that many more years.

I do think we have a big hole at PF and something needs to be done. I think we need to try and move Carlos - maybe Dooling, but if Stan wants Dooling keep him around. I would try to move Garrriy with cash and we could always trade Redick - I would rather see Redick play and see what we have - I think he might be good, but it doesn't look like we will ever know as long as he is in Orlando - he certainly could back up Mo Evans and let Bogans give up some minutes.

Otis did a great job going after Donovan - not his fault on Donovan's about face and SVG is just awesome. I am not happy with how the team is playing, but SVG is so refreshing after the entire nightmare coach - BHill.

Hey Cedric:

I'll give you that Otis and Dave were the ones responsible for picking Dwight. I hate Weis more than them, so whatever.

What does it have to do with anything that Otis scouted Jammer 1000 times and had him in his top 5. That doesn't mean anything. Does that automatically make Jameer an all star PG? No. I should hope that Otis scouted him so much and its great that he ranked him high. That just mean Otis has been wrong so far. Scouts and GM are wrong sometimes. It doesn't matter how many times they scouted someone or how high they had them ranked. But obviously you didn't know that.
