The Magic have remained in contact with Vazquez, often sending scouts to watch him play and mailing him tapes of their games. After losing Darko Milicic in free agency and Tony Battie to a season-ending shoulder injury, the Magic could use some of the size and shot-blocking along the front line that Vazquez might provide.

Another tease?

I'd guess that is his Spanish agent.
Next year is the final year of his contract, right? Maybe a reasonable buyout can be reached.

well, whatever...
not that its going to happen...but how funny would it be, if this guy came over here and just started dominating everyone? grabbing crazy boards, blocking shots, dunking on people, shooting long range jumpers...what would the General Board say?
realgm would probably shutdown for a few days...

This could be interesting....
From what I've read (there isn't much out there), Fran has been playing a really NBA style of ball which is a reason for his low numbers in the shoot happy Euro leagues.
He does have a pretty big contract over in Europe which did have a BIG buyout clause for Fran/Magic (keep in mind the magic can only contribute so much to the buyout; i believe $300k).
However, it sounds as if the team in Barcelona wants to get out of that BIG contract, so they could potentially settle with Fran for less than the remainder of the contract and let him walk.....straight to us after the all-star break.
This is all WISHFUL THINKING.

Magic could contribute 500k and I think the Buy-Out is 1 Mill Fran will Make what JJ is making about 2.2 1st year close anyway

Ive always thought that too haha, itd be hilarious. Like I said in the other Fran thread Id love to have him. From all the scouring reports you gte hes exactly what we need. Hes a tough hard nosed kid, shot blocker, will bang for boards (Haha) and he hustles. I remember draftexpress said his best case scenario was Marcus Camby. Its hard to ever get your hopes up with this, but Id love to see what he can do for us.

Sounds more like he'll be using the threat of going to the NBA to demand a larger contract.

Being familiar with how the Euroleagers think.
Money isn't really an issue here with Fran, it's playing time. Although it's his fault in a way because he should've known that he wasn't going to get a ton of PT in Barca like he did in his previous team.
I'm pretty sure that Otis would much rather help buy out Fran and get him here than bringing in C-Webb (because no way we'd be able to do both).
Fran does want to play in the NBA, it's been his goal and I think he has realized that now is a perfect time to leave an, at best, mediocre situation in Barca.

^^ would this be a move that'd happen in the offseason (if he came over) or could it possibly happen this season?

I think this season is a possibility (not a big one) but it all depends on how fed up Fran is, how much money Barca would want to let Fran go, and how much money (if any) Otis and our ownership would want to put up to help buy him out.
Realistically, it would happen before next season (especially if we get C-Webb here shortly).

Vazquez has been quoted many times that it is an eventual desire of his to play in the NBA. Of small-market teams, Orlando might have amongst the highest density of Spanish-speakers, a noted plus for Fran.
And, there are more direct flights to/from Orlando to Yurp than any city besides NYC.

i'd rather to get him as soon as possible so he can get play off experience (even if he doesn't play much)
so he can be ready for next year
practicing with our guys can only help him
