Battie back for the playoffs????

The NBA determined, through its doctors and Battie's doctors, that Battie could miss the season with his injury. However, nothing prevents a player from coming back at some point. Alonzo Mourning and Sean Elliott, who received kidney transplants, both did it after their teams were granted the exception.
Smith said the decision would depend on Battie and team doctors.
``Just because they deemed him out for the season doesn't mean he can't keep doing his rehabilitation and try to get back,'' Smith said. ``There's still a chance we could get him back for the playoffs.''

That would be nice, but I'm not sure that it's very likely. I'd rather him not try to rush back so he'll be 100% for next season.

I'm with that. If he's not 100% i say let's rest him.
But yeah this is what was expected that he might return playoffs.
I say let him rest till next season.
Battie will help us tremendously but I don't want him to rush back..and having to have a risk of getting injured again. And hopefully we'll have a consistent rotation by then..and Battie might distract it with not much chemistry with the new system.

Don't get your hopes up. I tore my rotator cuff and had surgery on it and it took me about a year to finally regain my mobility and strength. The key is rehab and you need ALOT of it just to get back to daily life, let alone the rigors of playing in the NBA. Battie is going to need a few more months of rehab so I would expect him back around training camp and probably won't play this season or the postseason.

Gortat, your right on there. I actually tore my rotator cuff when I was 17 in a tennis match. I was lucky, it was a minor tear, I only had to rehab, but that took me 8 months till it was healed. It took a couple of years before it really felt back to normal.
As for Tony, he's a pro athlete, and sports medicine these days is something special, so if he were to be active and ready to go in the playoffs wouldn't be all that shocking. His presence wouldn't hurt the Magic one bit.

If he can come back at 100% that would be huge for us IMO. But if not then no need to rush him back.

just rest him so he'll be 100% next season, don't want to risk anything.

Playoffs are about defense. As such, Battie would be a useful asset.

You can't toss a guy in after missing the whole season, it would be too much to ask.
Cook > Battie after missing 82 games.

Orlando Magic power forward Tony Battie said Wednesday that he "definitely" would like to attempt an early return so he can play in the playoffs, beginning in late April.
"I would definitely like to try. Why wouldn't I want to help my team?" Battie said. "But it's an eight-month recovery we'd be trying to squeeze into six months. So we'd have to see."
Battie, traveling with the team to Memphis and Detroit on this current road trip, said that he, too, was unaware that he could participate in the postseason after the Magic were granted an injury exception after he was hurt before training camp began.
