Maybe people are liking him more after the last few games, but I have liked him for a while - I am not sure on the Dooling hate.

I know he is not a great passer or a great dribbler, but he gives us defensive intensity, energy and he hits his shots for the most part - especially when we need a basket.

This team needs defense at times and when the Pistons were trying to post up Rip on Arroyo we were not doing well and then Dooling came back in and that stopped - we needed him in the game and at times we need him for his defense. I thought his PG play was better than I thought it would be, because I have a little trouble with how he handles the ball as do some others.

But really, what is with the hate? I don't understand. I guess he could shoot a better percentage - he is at 44%, but not terrible, 1.3 rebounds in 19 minutes - it would be nice to see that a little higher, 1.8 assists in 19 minutes - not terrible, but again a little higher would be nice, 1/2 a steal a game - would like to see him average at least 1 steal a game in 19 minutes, and 1 turn over, which is ok.

Anyway, he seems to hit his shots during clutch times and give us some good defense and probably give us some good play that doesn't show up in the stat sheet.

I'm just not understanding the hate - I think he is a decent backup.

I think he's perfect in the role he plays now: spark off the bench that can provide some offense and some energy. I think the hate comes when people start talking about him as a potential starting PG, which he most definitely is not. But I love the guy in the support role he has now.

I believe my feelings for Keyon are globally known...however, I do feel that he makes a few mistakes on a habitual basis...

such as, driving to the iron with a full shot clock and not having a tail on offense...that probably bothers me the most...and trying to make wacky passes that would probably work if they were practiced but everyone who is on the receiving end seems legitimately surprised by everyone of them...the dribble dribble dribble is 50/50 really, considering that is why he's brought in, just dont hold it, only to not setup a run and to take a 3 which your not great at...

Yes I hated Dooling...the hate is decreasing a little bit after the last few games. I just don't like his decision-making. I've seen it too many times Keyon brings the ball up court and looks for his own shot. He was good vs. Detroit. And sometimes he dribbles too much and he's not even a good dribbler. I love his enery on defense but thats it. But the hate is decreasing mainly because our pg rotation is trash.

He is a real nice bench player.

Just looking at his 82 games and his opposing PG PER is 8.8

Having Dooling is key to our bench. We need to bring him back after this season.

dooling is my favorite player on the team. hes short but he has heart and hustles his ass off every play..reminds me of me when i played in high school

I'm not a big fan of him playing back up point guard.

He just looks to dribble around for no reason and shoot too much.

Once the shot clock hits 10 he'll take it upon himself to force something up there.


I do love his energy and hustle on defense though.

I think the hate you see is a bit of a phantom meaning it is not really directed toward Dolling per se. Whenever Jameer is discussed or compared to Arroyo it seems that Dooling is lumped into the conversation. There is hate for Arroyo because he is competing for a starting position with Jameer. Is Arroyo a better PG? All things being equal maybe not but he is running the team well and there is an argument that he is running it better than Jameer at this time. All that said, Dooling invariably gets dragged into the comparison and it becomes a Jameer vs Arroyo/Dooling argument.

Thats how I see it.

Dooling is a prototype combo-guard. Such players are perfect sixth men, and Dooling is a perfect sixth man.

I agree with Theif on Dooling's negatives. I also don't like when he hits a couple of shot he brings the ball down and just spot up and takes jumpers early in the clock like he is Ray Allen all of the sudden. But drsd got it right. Dooling is a combo-guard. He is a good bench player. I think all of the hate comes from when we really needed him to step up at the 2 guard and play some big minutes a few seasons ago. He is not suited for that. People want to think of him as some sort of starting player, that is why their expectations are too high for him. He is good right where he is. He does a good job off that bench.

He is like our Jason Terry... just not as good. But he provides a lot of energy off the bench and instant scoring most of the time.

i like doolings role on the team, i like his energy and defense, but he isnt a great decision maker with the ball, and sometimes he doenst know when to stop shooting...if otis has a choice to make of either dooling/arroyo at the end of the season, i hope its dooling..he is a combo guard and our only pg that can play defense...

I've always liked Dooling. Its no secret I love hustle players and defenders so Dooling really fits that well.

While I dont hail him as some saviour of the team, I do like his role and what he can do for us, and gives us some defensive stablity in that back court that we so desperatly need. [Or rather the PG spot]

I like Keyon and I get the feeling that he is one of the most liked players on the team, which is huge for our team chemistry and success on the court.

Keyon would be in a perfect role as a 5th guard. 3rd string PG and SG.

I think people hate when he plays PG because he can be a black hole, he dribbles the ball for 20 seconds and then jacks up a shoot. But his best role is energetic bench player playing off the ball. And when he does that he is very effective. He did do a decent job on Billups when he played PG, but if he is playing PG I feel you got to have Hedo handle the ball and create instead of Dooling. Thats the only way he can play at the PG spot effectively.

Interesting comments - not as much hate as I thought. I do like him in a backup role and at PG I see where people can have trouble - a very tough defensive team may cause real problems for Keyon handling the ball, but it limited minutes at PG I think he brings something different for us.

I agree that I don't want him as a starter, but I do like him off the bench and if Jameer or Arroyo are getting abused defensively he does give us an alternative although it hurts a little bit with him handling the ball.
