Hedo the all star?

Post#1 » by EasternMagic » Fri Jan 25, 2008 6:20 am

i was looking at who was a head of hedo in the all star voting (besides KG and LBJ the starters) its Chris Bosh, Paul Peirce, Yi Jianlan, and Caron Butler and i was thinking there is no way hedo gets in over them because they are all really good except for Yi who shouldnt even be up there. and then i started looking at stats and realized at least statistically there isnt that big of a difference between hedo and the rest of them maybe a point or two or an assist or rebound (besides Bosh) And i came to the conclusion Hedo really does deserve this. I guess im not used to the thought of Hedo Turkoglu of the Orlando Magic having all star status. so i was wonder how much of a real chance do you think hedo has of getting in the all star game

less than 50/50 IMO...i think he deserves consideration...and it would make sense if he made it...but if not i could see the argument for others...

He should definitely be considered over Yi, no doubt, but either way it will still be hard for him to get in.

Butler will make it for sure, Jamison will get a look, and there will be some surprise wild cards too, but hopefully Hedo is one of them.

The votes don't matter, I don't understand why people base anything off of them other than for the starters.

I suspect Hedo will be victim of the fact that there are a lot of good forwards in the East. It will likely come down to he or Jamison and prolly go to Jamison because he is a name player.

I think Hedo should make the team, but it is prolly 25% at best.

don't the coaches pick the backups? if so i could easily see them spotting less recognised talent and rewarding it (Tayshaun Prince anybody?). Butler, Jamison and Hedo are all in with a good shot IMO.

it'll be pretty damn close.

He should certainly be in the conversation but I don't think he'll make it ahead of Paul Pierce, Caron Butler, Bosh, Jamison, Jefferson...

1. butler and bosh are in front of hedo, popularly and somewhat deservedly.
2. jamison and jefferson, not really; only names.
3. hedo seems to have a decent chance, especially if he continues his latest streak.
4. despite all that, it would be much better if he did not go to the all-star game and had a little rest instead.
5. the second half and the post-season performances are much more crucial than an appearance at the all-star pseudo-show.

The Eastern SFs with a better efficiency rating (in order):

LeBron James, CLE
Caron Butler, WAS
Paul Pierce, BOS
Richard Jefferson, NJN
Gerald Wallace, CHA
Andre Iguodala, PHI
Luol Deng, CHI
Josh Childress, ATL

Hedo is a long way off from an All star.

1. that list just proves that quantity does not always equate quality.
2. hedo is a better basketball player than childress, deng and iguodala.
3. he is arguably on the same level as wallace, butler and this season's pierce.
4. only lebron is clearly better.
5. those efficiency ratings cannot take into account what a player's role is and whether the said player excels at his role while helping in a significant way to help his team win.

childress, deng and ai have no chance for asg..
wallace and jefferson are contenders but i don't think their teams' averages are enough..

butler, pierce and bosh are locks... and imo for the last spot hedo and jamison are competing... i believe their chances are equal but nba.com writer says jamison will make it as a wildcard:

Jamison's 24 double-doubles put him second only to Dwight Howard in the Eastern Conference and eighth overall in the NBA. The 10-year vet is averaging more than 20 points and 10 rebounds for the first time in his career and is also sixth amongst all Eastern Conference forwards in three-pointers made with 66.

charlest barkley on TNT gave hedo some love by putting him in his eastern all star reserves. hedo does have a chance because of his dramatic improved play this season and orlandos record, but mainly his clutch play is what will put him in the running.
